It will shift operations to Austin, founder Daniel Brown said in an interview. The shop, housed in about 1,000 square feet, is tucked away on the eastern side of the popular neighborhood.

While Deep Ellum was a great place to establish the business, there are huge opportunities for the business in the state’s capital, Brown said. There’s an active and stronger market there for vintage clothing, and, at the same, he’s also able to keep his full-time job.

“If our shop can make it in Dallas, we can definitely thrive in Austin,” Brown said.

D-FW Retail News

The latest on retail openings, closings and trends in D-FW.

But there’s more. At least part of the reason for the shift was tied to the construction in Deep Ellum, a longstanding concern for businesses there, even if it wasn’t the primary driver, he said.

The infrastructure upgrades — and the effects on shoppers — reduced foot traffic by about 20% at the store, even as the business built up its outreach online.

“This construction in Deep Ellum is not fantastic and hasn’t been super helpful for us,” Brown said. “… There were fewer people driving by because of the road construction and just the accessibility to get to this area. I even noticed it for myself just trying to get to my shop.”

Deep Ellum, one of the older neighborhoods in the city, has thrived with its reputation for off-the-beaten-path retailers, restaurants and active bars. Yet a public works project, and other efforts, have driven complaints over several months, as equipment rumbles around the roads and some streets and sidewalks become hard to access. Some shops have said in the past that the construction has driven down sales.

Deep Ellum construction has been ongoing, affecting a number of businesses, including Nylo Wool in Dallas, Texas, on Aug 20, 2025.

Jason Janik / Special Contributor

For Nylo Wool, Deep Ellum had been a particularly great spot in Dallas that’s hard to match.
