She will be an active member of the club&#8217;s 12-player roster on Friday when the Wings host the Seattle Storm at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the College Park Center in Arlington.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nOkonkwo is the fifth TCU women&#8217;s basketball alumna to make a WNBA roster, joining Sandora Irvin (&#8217;04), Adrianne Ross (&#8217;08), Zahna Medley (&#8217;16) and <a href=\"https:\/\/gofrogs.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/hailey-van-lith\/16493\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"16493\" target=\"_blank\">Hailey Van Lith<\/a> (&#8217;25).<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nThe 6-2 stretch forward was a three-year letter winner for the Horned Frogs from 2016-19. Okonkwo averaged 13.1 points and 6.6 rebounds across her stay in Fort Worth. She led TCU to a pair of WNIT semifinals and a 59-43 combined overall record. Okonkwo was tabbed to the All-Big 12 second team in 2018 and 2019.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nOriginally from Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Okonkwo has been building toward a WNBA contract for some time. Okonkwo was invited to preseason camp in May with the Connecticut Sun and was named to the Wings&#8217; training camp roster in 2021. She put herself back on the periphery of the league after being named Most Valuable Player at the FIBA Women&#8217;s AfroBasket for the second time in her career on Aug. 10. Okonkwo averaged 14 points and six rebounds per game in leading Team Nigeria to a fifth consecutive gold medal.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nLong her ambition to enjoy a professional career in the United States, Okonkwo has played in Europe for the last five years. She competed for the French top-flight club Bourges in the Ligue F\u00e9minine de Basketball in 2024-25.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nOkonkwo has continually represented TCU on the global stage. She is a two-time Olympian in 5-on-5 with the Nigerian Women&#8217;s National Team. Okonkwo earned her first Olympics cap at the 2020 Tokyo Games. She served as team captain in 2024 in Paris, helping D&#8217;Tigress become the first African team to reach the Olympic quarterfinals in men&#8217;s or women&#8217;s basketball.
