{"id":164430,"date":"2025-08-21T18:21:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-21T18:21:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/164430\/"},"modified":"2025-08-21T18:21:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-21T18:21:14","slug":"kc-feds-schmid-wary-of-september-rate-cut-notes-very-consequential-data-in-coming-weeks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/164430\/","title":{"rendered":"KC Fed&#8217;s Schmid wary of September rate cut, notes &#8216;very consequential&#8217; data in coming weeks"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">JACKSON HOLE, Wyo. \u2014 Kansas City Fed president Jeffrey Schmid said on Thursday the August jobs report due out Sept. 5 will be &#8220;very consequential&#8221; in shaping the central bank&#8217;s next move.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">\u201cI think the data coming between now and the September meeting is going to be very consequential,&#8221; Schmid told Yahoo Finance from the Jackson Hole Economic Symposium.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">&#8220;So if we do see patterns and [a] risk to the labor market itself, I think we&#8217;ll start to consider and weigh the inflation data to the labor data.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Schmid described the Fed\u2019s current monetary policy stance as &#8220;modestly restrictive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">For four years, inflation has persistently been above the Fed&#8217;s 2% target, and recent data suggests it might now be rising further. REUTERS\/Ann Saphir  \u00b7 REUTERS \/ Reuters     <\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">&#8220;I think we&#8217;re seeing and hearing, more importantly, in the [Kansas City Fed&#8217;s] district, that some [of] the risk of [inflation] is higher than maybe seeing some of the labor numbers come back into line,&#8221; Schmid said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">Last week&#8217;s Consumer Price Index (CPI) report showed that while headline inflation was lower than consensus forecasts, on a &#8220;core&#8221; basis <a data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/cpi-report-core-inflation-rises-by-most-in-six-months-stoking-tariff-driven-price-concerns-153654897.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:prices rose more than expected;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">prices rose more than expected<\/a>. The Producer Price Index (PPI), a read on wholesale prices, <a data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/finance.yahoo.com\/news\/ppi-inflation-shock-core-producer-prices-hit-3-year-high-in-july-in-head-scratching-inflation-surge-123743902.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:also showed inflation pressures building;cpos:5;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">also showed inflation pressures building<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">The July jobs report showed hiring slowed last month, while over 250,000 job additions were revised away from the May and June data.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">&#8220;We have a lot of things in balance right now in the economy, in my opinion,&#8221; Schmid said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1090901\">&#8220;And I&#8217;m just trying to be very careful to [not] try and do too much.
