This fall, the New York Transit Museum and MTA New York City Transit invite New Yorkers and visitors to go back in time and experience the city&#8217;s\u00a0history\u00a0of transit with two unforgettable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytransitmuseum.org\/nostalgiarides\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Nostalgia Rides<\/a>\u00a0on October 4 and November 8.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The New York Transit Museum is the largest museum in the United States devoted to urban public transportation history with dedication to preserving the\u00a0subway cars\u00a0that once\u00a0carried millions of passengers through the five boroughs. Starting in October, the museum is giving New Yorkers the rare opportunity to ride in these vintage\u00a0trains once again.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>RECOMMENDED: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/attractions\/best-museum-exhibitions-in-nyc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The best museum exhibitions in NYC right now<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, October 4 you can take a\u00a0historic\u00a0ride uptown to Woodlawn Cemetery on their WWI-era IRT Lo-V (Low Voltage) subway cars.\u00a0More than 1,600 of these train cars were built for New York&#8217;s first subway line company, which featured safer electrical systems and durable steel construction.\u00a0The cars also appeared in classic films like King Kong\u00a0and The Incident. Keep an eye out for these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timeout.com\/newyork\/news\/5-surprising-secrets-inside-nycs-woodlawn-cemetery-092024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">secrets of Woodlawn<\/a>\u00a0while you&#8217;re there. The Nostalgia Ride will depart from Old South Ferry Station at noon and return at approximately 5pm.\u00a0Guests\u00a0are welcome to bring a picnic lunch for the two-hour visit.<\/p>\n<p>If you can&#8217;t make the October date, no problem\u2014on November 8, the New York Transit is pulling out R32 Brightliner cars for a round-trip run beginning and ending at the 96 St-Second Avenue station, including a turnaround through the East New York Yard.\u00a0The stainless\u00a0steel Brightliner cars became a familiar\u00a0sight for generations of New Yorkers\u00a0when they debuted in\u00a0the 1960s on almost every lettered subway line.
