The Woodward Avenue fa\u00e7ade will also be redesigned with a new public window display.<\/p>\n<p>The Mike Kelley Mobile Homestead, located behind the museum, will continue to host programming; on Oct. 24, it will debut \u201cHeart Land,\u201d a solo exhibition by Detroit-based artist Mary-Ann Monforton that reimagines icons of American wealth and ambition through sculpture to challenge the spectacle of power.<\/p>\n<p class=\"related-link\"><strong style=\"margin-right:3px\">More: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freep.com\/story\/entertainment\/arts\/2025\/05\/24\/mocad-gun-violence-memorial-project\/83773538007\/\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Powerful memorial for gun violence victims draws deep emotions at Detroit&#8217;s MOCAD<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The anniversary year will kick off with a dynamic series of exhibitions featuring artists Carole Harris, Martha Mysko, and the first museum retrospective of legendary Detroit artist Olayami Dabls. Known for founding the MBAD African Bead Museum, Dabls has spent over four decades blending African spiritual symbolism, Black history, and Detroit\u2019s industrial landscape into transformative public art.<\/p>\n<p>Guided by the theme \u201cRadical Imagination, Intersectional Futures,\u201d the anniversary program will honor MOCAD as a site of civic engagement, experimentation, and collective visioning. It will invite artists, neighbors, and culture-bearers to use art as a tool for liberation, joy, and community building.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we celebrate our twentieth year, we\u2019re honoring MOCAD\u2019s role as a civic commons,\u201d MOCAD co-directors Jova Lynne and Marie Madison-Patton stated in a written release. \u201cThis renovation is an investment in the museum\u2019s future \u2013 one that will allow us to better serve artists, audiences, and the city of Detroit.
