{"id":166042,"date":"2025-08-22T08:38:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-22T08:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/166042\/"},"modified":"2025-08-22T08:38:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-22T08:38:10","slug":"fort-worth-names-former-dallas-police-chief-eddie-garcia-citys-28th-police-chief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/166042\/","title":{"rendered":"Fort Worth names former Dallas police chief Eddie Garcia city&#8217;s 28th police chief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\tFort Worth City Manager Jay Chapa announced Aug. 21 that former Dallas Police Department Chief Eddie Garcia will be city\u2019s 28th police chief.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The gist<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Garcia was chosen from a field of three finalists who took part in a public meet-and-greet Aug. 14 at city hall.<\/p>\n<p>The other finalists were Robert Alldredge Jr., the current <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/keller-roanoke-northeast-fort-worth\/government\/2025\/05\/21\/fort-worth-names-alldredge-as-interim-police-chief-for-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">interim chief<\/a> for Fort Worth, and Vernon Hale III, the current assistant chief of police for the Prince George&#8217;s County Police Department in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, according to previous <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/dallas-fort-worth\/keller-roanoke-northeast-fort-worth\/government\/2025\/07\/16\/fort-worth-city-manager-announces-4-police-chief-finalists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reporting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A fourth finalist, Emada Tingirdes from the Los Angeles Police Department, withdrew her name after getting a promotion in Los Angeles, according to a city news release.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What you need to know<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Garcia currently serves as an assistant city manager in Austin and was the police chief in Dallas from February 2021 to October 2024, commanding the ninth-largest police department in the country, according to the news release. He\u2019s been with the city of Austin since he was hired in September 2024, according to a previous <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/austin\/south-central-austin\/government\/2024\/09\/19\/former-dallas-police-chief-tapped-to-oversee-austin-public-safety-departments\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reporting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Austin, Garcia <a href=\"https:\/\/www.austintexas.gov\/department\/city-manager\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">oversees<\/a> the fire department, police department, Austin\/Travis County EMS, chief medical officer, forensic science department, Homeland Security and Emergency Management and labor relations, according to the city website.<\/p>\n<p>Garcia is part T.C. Broadnax\u2019s staff, who was the former city manager of Dallas. Broadnax was hired as Austin\u2019s city manager May 26, 2024, according to previous Community Impact <a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/austin\/south-central-austin\/government\/2024\/03\/26\/tc-broadnax-chosen-to-be-austins-next-city-manager\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reporting<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Garcia spent 28 years working for the San Jose Police Department in California, with the last five as police chief from 2016-21.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The background<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mosaicpublic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mosaic Public Partners<\/a> conducted the national search and received a total of 51 applicants from 15 states, 92% of which were male and 8% who were female, according to a news release.
