{"id":166087,"date":"2025-08-22T09:03:16","date_gmt":"2025-08-22T09:03:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/166087\/"},"modified":"2025-08-22T09:03:16","modified_gmt":"2025-08-22T09:03:16","slug":"citi-bike-to-add-age-verification-system-in-new-york-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/166087\/","title":{"rendered":"Citi Bike to add age verification system in New York City"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Citi Bike riders will soon have to verify their age to ride a bike, after a push from city officials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s wrong to have kids tooling around on e-bikes that can get a good head of steam on them and can create really dangerous conditions,&#8221; said Deputy Mayor Randy Mastro.<\/p>\n<p>More than 100,000 New Yorkers ride Citi Bike daily. The bikeshare program, which is owned by Lyft, is one of the largest programs in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, riders have to be 16 or older to ride. But there is no method in place to verify ages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe said to Lyft, \u2018Hey, apply your own rules and have real enforcement,\u2019 because it\u2019s a matter of public safety,&#8221; said Mastro.<\/p>\n<p>Citi Bike said it is working on a verification program.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSafety is our top priority.
