SAN ANTONIO<\/strong> \u2013 Closing arguments are expected Friday morning in the capital murder retrial of R.C. Curtis<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The high-profile case, marked by multiple delays<\/a> and evidence discoveries<\/a>, will be livestreamed on all of KSAT\u2019s digital platforms. The livestream will offer access to courtroom proceedings that could finally bring closure to the case. <\/p>\n

Proceedings are expected to start at 9:15 a.m. Friday. Delays are possible; if there\u2019s no livestream available, check back at a later time. <\/b><\/p>\n

The state and defense both rested on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Curtis is accused of beating, strangling and sexually assaulting 75-year-old Paula Boyd, a beloved H-E-B employee. She was found dead in her apartment nearly a decade ago.<\/p>\n

Curtis was married to Boyd\u2019s granddaughter at the time of the murder.<\/p>\n

The path to trial<\/a> has been anything but straightforward. A November 2021 trial ended in a mistrial after prosecutors revealed new evidence late in the process. <\/p>\n

During opening statements on Tuesday, prosecutor Daryl Harris told jurors about Boyd\u2019s life and her reputation as a friendly face at the H-E-B on the Interstate 10 access road and De Zavala Road. <\/p>\n

Firefighters from a nearby station were among those who befriended Boyd, describing her as \u201ceverybody\u2019s grandmother.\u201d<\/p>\n

During the Tuesday afternoon testimony, Curtis was seen nodding off on several occasions.<\/p>\n

Boyd\u2019s daughter, Brenda Boyd Perez, also testified on Tuesday. She said that she had a joint account with her mother to help with finances.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, testimony centered on retired San Antonio police detective Randal Hines<\/a>, whose 2015 investigation led to Curtis\u2019 arrest in Boyd\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

Prosecutors allege Curtis killed Boyd and used her stolen credit and debit cards. However, defense attorneys argued that Boyd occasionally let Curtis borrow her cards.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the jury got its first look at the interview Curtis gave to San Antonio police six days after Boyd\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

In the interview, Curtis explained he was married to Boyd\u2019s granddaughter and denied ever taking anything from Boyd.<\/p>\n

He also told detectives he had nothing to do with her murder.<\/p>\n

If convicted, Curtis faces an automatic life sentence without parole, as prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty. <\/p>\n
