CHICAGO (WLS) — A man was shot and critically injured while sitting in a car outside a Southwest Side motel, police said.<\/p>\n

Police said the shooting happened near West 49th Street and South Archer Avenue in the Archer Heights neighborhood just before 5:30 a.m. Chopper 7 was over the scene.<\/p>\n

A 33-year-old man was sitting in a vehicle when someone approached him, took out a gun and fired shots, police said.<\/p>\n

The victim, shot in the body multiple times, was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.<\/p>\n

There is no one in custody, and Area One detectives are investigating.<\/p>\n

Police did not immediately provide further information about the shooting.<\/p>\n
