They don&#8217;t have to be playing perfectly. Players may get <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net\/wiki\/Promotional_cards_(TCG)\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">promotional (promo) cards<\/a> for playing or winning. Pok\u00e9mon maintains <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/events.pokemon.com\/EventLocator\/?locale=en-US&amp;range=25&amp;iskm=false\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a map of places<\/a> that offer locals and more competitive play.<\/p>\n<p><b>League Challenge and League Cup:<\/b> Pok\u00e9mon-sanctioned <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pokemon.com\/us\/play-pokemon\/pokemon-events\/championship-series\/2025\/league-challenge-cup\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">local tournaments<\/a> where players can begin to earn points toward more advanced competitions.<\/p>\n<p><b>Pok\u00e9mon Professor<\/b>: The Pok\u00e9mon Company bestows <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pokemon.com\/us\/play-pokemon\/organize\/become-a-pokemon-professor\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">this title<\/a> on enthusiasts who <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/professorprogram.pokemon.com\/page\/join\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">complete an application<\/a>, which includes passing a test on basic gameplay and a background check. Professors may help <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/events.pokemon.com\/EventLocator\/?locale=en-US&amp;range=25&amp;iskm=false\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">host events<\/a> and judge competitions.<\/p>\n<p><b>Pre-release party\/tournament: <\/b>An opportunity for players to play with and purchase new sets of cards in the two weeks before the official release. The professors LAist interviewed say the cost usually ranges from $30 to $40 and includes a deck and several booster packs of cards.
