San Diegan’s are seeing fewer gray whales migrating off our coast. <\/p>\n
According to a new report from the National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration there are fewer than 13-thousand of these whales migrating in our local waters these days. That’s a big drop from the nearly 30-thousand recorded a decade ago.<\/p>\n
Experts say it’s because of less food availability to to climate change. The whales spend summer months in Arctic waters where they eat shrimp like critters called amphipods. Then, they migrate 10-thousand miles south for the winter to the waters of the Baja peninsula. Wales can often be seeing during their migration off the coast of San Diego. <\/p>\n
