Greg Abbott\u2019s desk.<\/p>\n<p>   Texas redistricting: Congressional map reaches Senate <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">What we know:<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">The debate at the Capitol stretched through Friday as senators clashed over how the proposal would affect Houston-area communities.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Democrats argue the plan undermines minority representation, while Republicans say it\u2019s about political performance.<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox26houston.com\/news\/texas-house-vote-new-redistricting-maps?utm_campaign=trueanthem_manual&amp;utm_medium=trueAnthem&amp;utm_source=instagram\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">On Wednesday<\/a>, the Texas House approved the map 88\u201352 after Democrats stalled votes by breaking quorum and leaving the state in protest.<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Republicans say the plan could add five GOP U.S. House seats statewide. Locally, it would affect districts in the Houston area, including Congressional District 9, represented by U.S. Rep. Borris Miles (D) pressed the bill, asking: &#8220;How does your plan affect Black communities of Harris County and Fort Bend County?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Sen. Phil King (R) responded saying, &#8220;As I said before, I did not take racial data into consideration in regard to this map. I can you tell the greater Houston area will perform under CD-9 better politically for a Republican candidate. I don\u2019t know who\u2019s going to run for office in any of the districts. I can\u2019t predict if they will win or lose.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Sen. Carol Alvarado (Dn) pushed back, saying: &#8220;I have a hard time believing you or anyone did not look at racial demographics.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Sen. King replied: &#8220;There is absolutely no reason to look at racial data when you\u2019re trying to improve political performance. Alvarado posted on X<\/a> that she\u2019s prepared to filibuster: &#8220;Republicans think they can walk all over us. Today I\u2019m going to kick back. I\u2019ve submitted my intention to filibuster the new congressional maps. Going to be a long night.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>  California responds with new redistricting plan <\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Big picture view:<\/p>\n<p data-v-7f0a623e=\"\">Meanwhile, in California, Gov. Gavin Newsom on Thursday signed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox26houston.com\/news\/state-legislature-approves-special-election-new-ca-congressional-map?utm_campaign=trueanthem_manual&amp;utm_medium=trueAnthem&amp;utm_source=instagram\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">legislation to move forward a redistricting plan<\/a> aimed at gaining five more U.S. House seats for Democrats in the 2026 election.
