{"id":168141,"date":"2025-08-23T03:17:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T03:17:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/168141\/"},"modified":"2025-08-23T03:17:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T03:17:08","slug":"blue-jays-shane-bieber-dominant-in-long-awaited-return","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/168141\/","title":{"rendered":"Blue Jays&#8217; Shane Bieber dominant in long-awaited return"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aug 22, 2025, 09:08 PM ET<\/p>\n<p>MIAMI &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/40912\/shane-bieber\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Shane Bieber<\/a> struck out nine over six dominant innings of one-run ball in his debut with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/tor\/toronto-blue-jays\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Toronto Blue Jays<\/a> and first appearance in 16 months Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>The right-hander allowed two hits and hit a batter in his 87-pitch outing against the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/mia\/miami-marlins\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Miami Marlins<\/a>, leaving with the Blue Jays ahead 5-1 in an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/boxscore\/_\/gameId\/401696831\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">eventual 5-2 win<\/a>. He retired 12 straight after allowing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/player\/_\/id\/5073992\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Javier Sanoja<\/a>&#8216;s solo homer in the second inning.<\/p>\n<p>It was Bieber&#8217;s first major league appearance since April 2, 2024, when he experienced elbow discomfort and subsequently underwent Tommy John surgery.<\/p>\n<p>The Blue Jays acquired the 2020 American League Cy Young Award winner from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/team\/_\/name\/cle\/cleveland-guardians\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cleveland Guardians<\/a> on July 31. Bieber had done four rehab outings with the Guardians before the trade.<\/p>\n<p>Bieber, 30, spent his first seven seasons with Cleveland.
