{"id":168520,"date":"2025-08-23T06:54:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T06:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/168520\/"},"modified":"2025-08-23T06:54:13","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T06:54:13","slug":"witnesses-describe-moments-before-deadly-maryvale-high-school-classroom-stabbing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/168520\/","title":{"rendered":"Witnesses describe moments before deadly Maryvale High School classroom stabbing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MARYVALE, AZ \u2014 Court documents are shedding more light on what led to a <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc15.com\/news\/region-phoenix-metro\/student-hospitalized-after-incident-at-maryvale-high-school-in-phoenix\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">deadly stabbing at a Phoenix-area school earlier this week.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to court documents, police were called to Maryvale High School just before 11 a.m. on Tuesday for reports of a stabbing.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When officers arrived, they found a juvenile, later identified as 16-year-old Michael Montoya II, with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to the hospital for treatment, where he died about an hour later.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to witness statements, the victim was believed to have robbed the suspect, Chris Aguilar, 16, of a firearm the day before. A witness said the suspect and his twin brother said they would \u201cmurder the victim after the robbery.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>            <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1755932050_331_\" alt=\"Chris Aguilar\"  width=\"1280\" height=\"720\"\/><\/p>\n<p>MCSO<\/p>\n<p>Teachers and students witnessed the attack, which occurred in a classroom and was captured on video, according to police.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>One student said Aguilar typically sat behind her in class, but moved seats to sit next to the victim that day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Aguilar reportedly punched the victim multiple times while he was sitting at a table before taking a pocketknife from his pants and using it to stab the victim three times.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe victim attempted to run away but fell to the ground\u201d during the attack. Witnesses say the victim was not able to defend himself. <\/p>\n<p>One of the witnesses used the victim\u2019s cell phone to call 911 after the attack, documents say.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Aguilar was reportedly seen leaving the classroom and dropping the knife outside.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Deadly stabbing rocks Maryvale High School<\/p>\n<p>Police recovered a four-inch folding knife, believed to be the weapon in the attack. The knife had Aguilar\u2019s name etched in the handle, documents show.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Officials say Aguilar was detained by school security officers and Phoenix police before being taken to a hospital for treatment of a cut to his hand. <\/p>\n<p>After being released from the hospital, he was booked into the Maricopa County juvenile corrections center on a second-degree murder charge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, the Phoenix Union School District released a statement, which in part read &#8220;the district&#8217;s investigation is ongoing and we continue to cooperate fully with the police investigation, a piece of which includes how the weapon got onto the Maryvale campus.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>Police, political officials held a press conference Tuesday to share their sentiments following the deadly stabbing.
