\n\tBefore her A Big Bold Beautiful Journey<\/a> co-star\u2019s tenure as Oswald Cobblepot, the 3x Oscar nominee almost went toe-to-toe with the DC<\/a> supervillain when she starred as Harley Quinn in director Cathy Yan<\/a>\u2018s Birds of Prey<\/a> (2020).<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThe first draft that Christina [Hodson]<\/a> wrote of Birds of Prey, the villain was the Penguin<\/a>,\u201d she told Farrell in an interview for Entertainment Weekly<\/a>. \u201cAnd then [The Batman<\/a> director\/writer] Matt Reeves<\/a> said, \u2018Don\u2019t use the Penguin. I\u2019m going to use him in my thing.\u2019 And so we swapped it to Black Mask [played by Ewan McGregor<\/a>].\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter she last appeared as Harley in James Gunn<\/a>\u2018s The Suicide Squad (2021), the DC Studios boss recently said that Robbie\u2019s future as the character will be \u201crevealed down the line<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPremiering last month in theaters, Gunn\u2019s Superman launched a new DCU<\/a> with the \u2018Gods and Monsters\u2019 phase, separate from Reeves\u2019 \u2018Batman Epic Crime Saga\u2019, which includes The Batman (2022) and last year\u2019s HBO Max series spin-off The Penguin.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter Gunn previously defended the delays<\/a> on The Batman Part II, which is set to premiere<\/a> on Oct. 1, 2027 following a year-long postponement, Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin revealed in June that they finished the script<\/a> for the sequel.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a letter to Warner Bros.
