But the ship remained at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal instead before anchoring in The Narrows.

The plan is for the Norwegian Escape to remain anchored in New York City waters through Aug. 22 before taking off on its voyage.

The NCL vessel, which carries 4,218 passengers, was supposed to make stops on Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, on August 23 and 24, respectively.

But the departure delay means that those two stops will no longer be possible, the website said. Erin’s powerful winds and heavy rains have left more than 150,000 people in Puerto Rico without power.

Visits to Philipsburg, St. Maarten on Aug. 25, and Tortola, British Virgin Islands, on Aug. 26 have also been scrapped, the website said.

Those dates will now be spent in Nassau, Bahamas, and Great Stirrup Cay, which is Norwegian Cruise Line’s private island in the Bahamas.

The planned visit to King’s Wharf, Bermuda, on Aug. 28 is still on the schedule.

In light of the schedule changes, Norwegian Cruise Line has offered passengers a 20% refund and a $200 onboard credit.

But in an email with the website, one passenger griped, “They sent out an email stating itinerary changed due to hurricane Erin potential impact. Severe downgrade if you ask me and they’re only giving 20% refund and $200 credit per stateroom.”

Other cruise lines also had to change schedules in the face of Erin, which did not make landfall in the U.S. but still packed heavy winds and torrential rain.

The Advance/SILive.com has reached out to Norwegian Cruise Line about the situation.

If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
