{"id":169065,"date":"2025-08-23T11:53:08","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T11:53:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/169065\/"},"modified":"2025-08-23T11:53:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T11:53:08","slug":"lincoln-of-san-diego-surges-past-punahou","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/169065\/","title":{"rendered":"Lincoln of San Diego surges past Punahou"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Punahou was able to put plays together and gain momentum Friday against Lincoln, and then the Hornets seized it back and then some.<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln scored the first 17 points of the third quarter to cap a 24-0 run, then put up 20 unanswered in the fourth in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.staradvertiser.com\/2025\/08\/22\/photo-gallery\/punahou-clobbered-by-lincoln-of-san-diego-57-29\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">57-29 victory over Punahou in a non-league game at Roosevelt.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe missed tackles. You have to finish plays,\u201d Punahou coach Nate Kia said. \u201cYou have to win one-on-one battles and we didn\u2019t do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rashad Robinson rushed 12 times for 142 yards and two touchdowns for Lincoln, ranked No. 11 in California by MaxPreps.<\/p>\n<p>The Hornets seized control after halftime, starting with Adell Nunez\u2019s 29-yard field goal on the first possession of the second half to put them ahead 23-14.<\/p>\n<p>A key sequence came shortly after when Lincoln\u2019s DeAndre Williams intercepted a deflected pass the Hornets\u2019 4.<\/p>\n<p>                        <strong>Don&#8217;t miss out on what&#8217;s happening!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"email-form-blurb m-0\">Stay in touch with breaking news, as it happens, conveniently in your email inbox. It&#8217;s FREE!<\/p>\n<p>On the next play, Robinson scored on a 96-yard run to put Lincoln ahead 30-14 with 6:15 remaining in the quarter.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEarlier in the game, my coach actually got on me. We tipped the rock. I missed it the first time, I had to make a play the second time,\u201d Williams said of the interception. \u201cWhen the play comes to you, you just have to make the play and celebrate with your guys.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Williams made an impact on special teams on the Buffanblu\u2019s next drive by blocking a punt and returning it two yards for a touchdown, which put the Hornets ahead 37-14 with 4:48 remaining in the third.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw the play. I know I can block stuff, I\u2019m all over the field. As soon as I saw it, I went for it,\u201d Williams said.<\/p>\n<p>Said Lincoln coach David Dunn: \u201cThose were huge plays from (Williams). Concentrating to make the interception and blocking that kick and picking it up and scoring.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Buffanblu (1-2) cut the deficit to 37-21 on Bryce Tomas\u2019 6-yard run with 1:05 to go in the third, and to 37-29 on Hunter Fujikawa\u2019s 4-yard pass to Parker Noland with 11 seconds remaining in the third. Fujikawa ran in the two-point conversion.<\/p>\n<p>The second touchdown came one play after Dane Kellner\u2019s interception and 52-yard return.<\/p>\n<p>Then Lincoln, of San Diego, took control in the fourth.<\/p>\n<p>The Hornets went up 44-29 on Junior Curtis\u2019 1-yard run with 10:29 remaining. The drive was only 43 yards because the Buffanblu were penalized on the kickoff for unsportsmanlike conduct after their touchdown pass.<\/p>\n<p>The Hornets (1-0) went ahead 51-29 on Jordan Roa\u2019s 13-yard pass to Courtney Miller-Thompson with 4:39 remaining.<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln capped the scoring on Kainan Manna\u2019s 10-yard pass to Jordan Lewis with 1:02 to go.<\/p>\n<p>Punahou\u2019s Fujikawa completed 18 of 41 passes for 208 yards, and Keola Ane caught seven passes for 114 yards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPunahou is a good team. They have good fight,\u201d Dunn said.<\/p>\n<p>The Hornets took a 7-0 lead on their second possession on Cam Joy\u2019s 24-yard run off the left side with 6:06 left in the first quarter. Nunez made the PAT kick.<\/p>\n<p>The Buffanblu, ranked No. 7 in the Star-Advertiser poll, tied it at 7-7 with 2:56 remaining on Aaron Johnson\u2019s 2-yard run up the middle and Tyler Endo\u2019s PAT kick.<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln was penalized for encroachment on fourth-and-short, roughing the passer, unsportsmanlike conduct and facemask on the drive.<\/p>\n<p>The Hornets went up 13-7 on Curtis\u2019 1-yard run with 10:18 left before halftime. Roa extended the drive with a 9-yard quarterback keeper on fourth-and-3, which placed the ball at the Buffanblu 9.<\/p>\n<p>The drive was set up by Jamari Sherell\u2019s interception and 37-yard return to the 22.<\/p>\n<p>Punahou went up 14-13 with a four-play, 47-yard drive, capped by Fujikawa\u2019s 9-yard pass to Brady Lau with 8:35 remaining before halftime.<\/p>\n<p>Lincoln retook the lead at 20-14 on Robinson\u2019s 2-yard run with 6:03 left in the half.
