{"id":169371,"date":"2025-08-23T14:46:13","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T14:46:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/169371\/"},"modified":"2025-08-23T14:46:13","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T14:46:13","slug":"new-york-city-area-beaches-still-see-high-rip-current-risk-in-erins-wake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/169371\/","title":{"rendered":"New York City-area beaches still see high rip current risk in Erin&#8217;s wake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                  First Alert Weather: Rip currents persist at NYC-area beaches Saturday &#8211; 8.23.25 <\/p>\n<p>          <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/5bde17e223eb1a4f3387bfe0f0b0fdd3.jpg\"   class=\"temp__img\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                              <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/video\/first-alert-weather-rip-currents-persist-at-nyc-area-beaches-saturday-8-23-25\/\" class=\"embed__headline-link\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<p>          First Alert Weather: Rip currents persist at NYC-area beaches Saturday &#8211; 8.23.25<\/p>\n<p>          04:01<\/p>\n<p>                      <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Beaches in the New York City area and New Jersey are open Saturday, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/hurricane-erin-rip-currents-nyc-jersey-shore\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">swimming bans<\/a> may remain in place as there continues to be a high rip current risk in Hurricane Erin&#8217;s wake.<\/p>\n<p>Erin is now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/hurricane-erin-track-path\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">a post-tropical cyclone<\/a> as it moves even further out into the Atlantic Ocean, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/newyork\/news\/hurricane-erin-flooding-nyc-long-island\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"noopener\">its effects will linger<\/a> throughout the weekend along the region&#8217;s coastline from Long Island to the Jersey Shore.<\/p>\n<p>The risk for dangerous rip currents is the greatest concern at the local beaches, where they could develop at any time. Wave heights will gradually decrease over the weekend, dropping from 4-8 feet on Saturday to 3-7 feet by Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>      <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1755960372_591_fa-high-rip-current-risk.png#.png\" alt=\"fa-high-rip-current-risk.png \" height=\"349\" width=\"620\" class=\" lazyload\"  loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p>                CBS News New York<\/p>\n<p>The coastal flooding threat has also come down considerably, going from a moderate\/high risk to low overnight Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For the most part, today&#8217;s forecast is just as nice as yesterday&#8217;s, with lots of sunshine and low humidity staying in place.<\/p>\n<p>Higher humidity levels, as well as chances for showers and storms, return tomorrow.
