Bill Maher warned that President Donald Trump is \u201cslow-moving\u201d a coup that will go \u201ca lot smoother than the last one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maher\u2014joined by journalist Frank Bruni, neuroscientist Andrew Huberman, and conservative activist Christopher Rufo\u2014ripped into liberals for being too sensitive on the Friday broadcast of Real Time With Bill Maher on HBO.<\/p>\n

Instead, Maher cautioned, Democrats should be focusing their energies on stopping Trump\u2019s \u201cslow-moving coup,\u201d which could shut liberals out from running the federal government as Trump consolidates Republican power.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me just describe some of the steps\u2014and you tell me if I\u2019m being paranoid,\u201d Maher said. \u201cFirst, create a masked police force. Get people used to looking at that. Normalize snatching people off the street. Get them used to looking at that. Normalize seeing the National Guard and the military on the street.\u201d <\/p>\n

Then, Maher added, \u201cStart talking about crime in the capital, which has always been a fairly crime-ridden city.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump deployed federal agents and the National Guard across Washington, D.C., after a local carjacking left Edward \u201cBig Balls\u201d Coristine<\/a>, a former employee of the Department of Government Efficiency, bloodied.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not playing games,\u201d Trump said Thursday as he thanked National Guard troops from one of D.C.\u2019s most crime-ridden neighborhoods, the Associated Press reported<\/a>. \u201cWe\u2019re going to make it safe. And we\u2019re going to then go on to other places.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump\u2019s use of federal force has been met with outrage by Democrats, who rebuked the Republican president\u2019s actions as overreach.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m deeply offended, as someone who\u2019s actually worn the uniform, that he would use the lives of these men and women and the activation of these men and women as political pawns,\u201d Maryland Gov. Wes Moore told the AP. <\/p>\n

Yet the New York Post reported<\/a> that Trump is already planning to repeat his deployment of federal forces in Chicago and New York City.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople in Chicago \u2026 are screaming for us to come. They\u2019re wearing red hats,\u201d Trump said Friday in the Oval Office. \u201cAfrican-American ladies, beautiful ladies, they are saying, \u2018Please, President Trump, come to Chicago. Please.\u2019 I did great with the black vote, as you know, and they want something to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cSo I think Chicago will be our next [stop] and then we\u2019ll help with New York.\u201d<\/p>\n

On Real Time, Maher said the militarization of U.S. cities could be how Trump puts the systems in place to maintain control of the presidential election process.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo, you have, in the capital, a sort of permanent police presence,\u201d Maher said. \u201cSo when an election dispute might come up, just hypothetically\u2014I mean, I don\u2019t want to be a big pessimist. And I\u2019m going to pretend, for the rest of the duration, that the Democrats do have a chance of winning, and they might win the next election.\u201d <\/p>\n

He added, \u201cI just don\u2019t think they\u2019re ever going to take power. Because this is what\u2019s going to happen. Because I think this coup is going to go off a lot smoother than the last one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rufo heralded Trump\u2019s actions as a success, citing a drop in crime, including murder, across the city for the week. <\/p>\n

Yet Bruni pushed back on such actions being a real sustainable solution for America, though he admitted there is too much crime in the nation\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think one week proves anything,\u201d he said. \u201cI would love to meet the statistician who would extrapolate from one week and say this is a sustainable solution.\u201d<\/p>\n

Maher cut in to say they all seem to be missing the point. <\/p>\n

\u201cI am just going to reiterate the one thing I think is being passed over here,\u201d Maher said. \u201cHe is creating an army in the nation\u2019s capital.
