{"id":169816,"date":"2025-08-23T18:48:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-23T18:48:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/169816\/"},"modified":"2025-08-23T18:48:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-23T18:48:11","slug":"american-midfielder-gio-reyna-leaves-borussia-dortmund-for-gladbach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/169816\/","title":{"rendered":"American midfielder Gio Reyna leaves Borussia Dortmund for Gladbach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>M\u00d6NCHENGLADBACH, Germany (AP) \u2014 United States attacking midfielder Gio Reyna is switching Borussias.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old Reyna joined Borussia M\u00f6nchengladbach from Bundesliga rival Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, signing a deal through June 2028 with his new club.<\/p>\n<p>Advertisement<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have been monitoring him for a while now and are convinced that he has the qualities needed to help us on the pitch,\u201d Gladbach sporting director Roland Virkus said. \u201cHe\u2019s familiar with the Bundesliga and can play at a number of different positions in attack.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Reyna, who joined Dortmund from New York City FC in 2019, only had a year left on his contract there and didn\u2019t figure highly in coach Niko Kova\u010d\u2019s plans, with his progress impeded by various injuries in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>Reyna was previously considered one of the club\u2019s most promising players but this summer had to watch as his No. 7 jersey was allocated to summer arrival Jobe Bellingham.<\/p>\n<p>A son of former U.S. captain Claudio Reyna and American midfielder Danielle Egan, Reyna in 2020 became at 17 the youngest American to debut in the Bundesliga.
