Helen Mirren<\/a> is sharing a shocking confession.<\/p>\n

The \u201cThursday Murder Club\u201d star, 80, revealed that even after six decades in Hollywood, she still gets \u201cabsolutely terrified\u201d when she starts on a new project.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s because every project that you go into is an unknown,\u201d Mirren admitted to People<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd each time you enter into a new project, you never know how it\u2019s going to be or how the people are going to be and whether the chemistry will be good or a disaster. So stepping into a project is nerve-racking,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n

Over the years, Mirren has racked up a long list of roles and taken home an Oscar, a Tony Award, five Primetime Emmy Awards, and multiple BAFTAs and Golden Globe awards.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery single one is completely different and has a different energy and a different requirement, you never know if you\u2019re going to sort of step up or not,\u201d\u00a0the \u201cRed\u201d alum mused. <\/p>\n

Mirren said she follows the motto \u201cfake it til you make it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of it is pretense, of course, sort of acting,\u201d she detailed. \u201cYou feel insecure, but you pretend you don\u2019t. And we all do it, don\u2019t we?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWalking into a party or walking into a job interview or whatever it is you\u2019re having to deal with. We all have sort of gird our loins for want of a better word.\u201d<\/p>\n

On the flip side, having a sense of fear has kept Mirren interested in the work she does.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think it\u2019s that very thing that I\u2019m talking about is the unknown. And that is the thing that sort of galvanizes you and drives you forward is the fear and the excitement of that,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

One role in particular comes to mind for Mirren: playing Queen Elizabeth II in\u00a02006 drama \u201cThe Queen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNow of course it\u2019s been done over and over and over again, but it hadn\u2019t really been done before. Not like that,\u201d explained Mirren. \u201cAnd that was very unknown territory at the time. And as you are probably aware, the British have a very extraordinary \u2014 and not exactly ambivalent \u2014 but a very profound emotional relationship with their monarchy and especially with the Queen because she was there for such a long time.\u201d<\/p>\n

The star called the late Queen, who died in 2022 at the age of 96, an \u201cincredible icon.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGenerations of people, including my generation, had been born and lived through her. So taking her, doing that, what was, we had no idea how that was going to be received.\u201d<\/p>\n

These days, Mirren is taking over the small screen in Netflix\u2019s \u201cThursday Murder Club,\u201d which debuts on Friday, Aug. 29.<\/p>\n

She stars alongside Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie and\u00a0Ben Kingsley as a group of retirees who spend their time solving cold case murders for fun.<\/p>\n

Mirren was part of the Royal Shakespeare Company in the 1970s with Kingsley, 81, and worked with Brosnan, 72, in \u201cMob Land.\u201d They were also both in the 1980 film\u00a0\u201cThe Long Good Friday.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a sense of, gosh, guys, isn\u2019t this amazing? Here we all are again,\u201d Mirren gushed. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing particularly surprising about the fact that we\u2019re all still working, but there was a great recognition of the fact that all of us have had long varied careers.\u201d<\/p>\n

The British icon\u2019s latest role comes on the heels of her controversial comments in May.<\/p>\n

While sitting down for the Hollywood Reporter\u2019s\u00a0Drama Actress Roundtable<\/a>, Mirren spoke with Kathy Bates, Niecy Nash-Betts, Parker Posey, Keri Russell and Cristin Milioti about the ups and downs of the entertainment industry. <\/p>\n

During the chat, Mirren shockingly quipped, \u201cLooking at our faces around this table, none of us are beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, get out of town!\u201d Bates, 77, fired back. \u201cI feel more beautiful than I have in my entire life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mirren, however, doubled down.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re not. None of us are beauties,\u201d she pressed. \u201cWe all have really different faces, very interesting faces.\u201d<\/p>\n

Russell, 49, came to the English actress\u2019s defense, explaining, \u201cI know what you mean. Like model beautiful?\u201d<\/p>\n
