A 5,000-acre master planned community called Goodland<\/a> is taking shape in far southern reaches of Grand Prairie, just southeast of Mansfield.<\/p>\n

In a \u201cmajor milestone\u201d for this \u201ctransformative project,\u201d the Grand Prairie City Council<\/a> on Tuesday unanimously voted to annex 900 acres, which means a town center portion of the development will have police and fire protection and other city services, including water and sewer.<\/p>\n

According to the developers, Goodland will have a total of at least 10,000 housing units with a population of 40,000 to 50,000. Single-family homes start in the $400,000 range; current models listed online go up to the $800,000s.<\/p>\n

The multi-phase development, which began in 2019, straddles Johnson and Ellis counties.<\/p>\n

Plans call for the annexed area to have a Montessori school, church, venue for weddings and events and coffee shop, as well as a \u201cdiverse mix of attainable and higher-density homes.\u201d<\/p>\n

There will also be at least one neighborhood dedicated for \u201cactive adults.\u201d The overall development will have regional parks, about 25 miles of trails and hundreds of acres of open spaces.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an important step toward a strong, balanced future for Grand Prairie,\u201d Mayor Ron Jensen said. \u201cWe are not just growing, we are growing in a way that strengthens the community we all call home.\u201d According to information on Grand Prairie\u2019s web site, the upcoming completion of Goodland Parkway, linking Texas 360 to U.S. 287, is moving the development forward.<\/p>\n

Once Goodland Parkway is completed, there will be connections to future retail, commercial and city services.<\/p>\n

Provident<\/a>, the privately held real estate firm based in Dallas that is developing Goodland, partnered with the city to construct the parkway.<\/p>\n

Rylan Yowell, managing director at Provident, said in a news release that \u201cWe value our public-private partnership with the City of Grand Prairie and our shared vision for Goodland.\u201d<\/p>\n

Provident is known for other developments throughout north Texas, including Preston Hollow Village, Stacy Green in Allen, Tavolo Park in Fort Worth and Hillstead in Lavon.<\/p>\n
