Jerry Adler, the veteran actor who famously starred in The Sopranos, died Saturday, his family\u00a0announced<\/a>. He was 96.<\/p>\n

Adler was born in Brooklyn and died surrounded by loved ones in New York City. His death announcement stated proudly, \u201cJerry was a resident of New York, New York.\u201d<\/p>\n

He famously played the Jewish consigliere \u201cHerman \u2018Hesh\u2019 Rabkin\u201d on The Sopranos, appearing in 28 episodes across all six seasons.<\/p>\n

The late blooming actor also starred in hit shows \u201cThe Good Wife\u201d and \u201cRescue Me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Adler, the cousin of famed acting teacher Stella Adler, began his career on Broadway and was the stage manager on the original production of the legendary play \u201cMy Fair Lady.\u201d<\/p>\n

He later appeared in several major films, including Woody Allen\u2019s \u201cManhattan Murder Mystery\u201d and Charlie Kaufman\u2019s \u201cSynechdoche, New York.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colleagues and creators remembered Adler for his ability to own a line and steal a scene.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe intent was only to have him on one episode of THE GOOD WIFE,\u201d showrunner Robert King\u00a0shared on X<\/a>\u00a0following the saddening news.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut he was so funny in a diner scene, yelling \u201cI said ice cream, you stupid b*tch\u201d we had him back for six years of Good Wife and three years of Good Fight. One of our favorite collaborators,\u201d King concluded.<\/p>\n

Adler himself shared his sage perspective on a life in show business.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou know what\u2019s interesting,\u201d he said in a\u00a02017 interview<\/a>, according to\u00a0the Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cYou spend your whole career backstage. Nobody knows who you are or even knows your name. They don\u2019t know anything about you.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then you do a television show and suddenly you\u2019re a celebrity and everyone knows your face. It\u2019s so weird.\u201d<\/p>\n
