The Washington Post <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2025\/08\/23\/trump-chicago-military-national-guard\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2025\/08\/23\/trump-chicago-military-national-guard\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2025\/08\/23\/trump-chicago-military-national-guard\/\">reports<\/a> that the Pentagon has been working on a model for military deployment in the Windy City that could then be replicated across the U.S.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">According to the report, one of the options for federal intervention in Chicago includes mobilizing thousands of National Guard troops as soon as next month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Trump has already deployed the National Guard to <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/trump-deploys-2000-national-guard-members-to-la-amid-ice-protests\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/trump-deploys-2000-national-guard-members-to-la-amid-ice-protests\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/trump-deploys-2000-national-guard-members-to-la-amid-ice-protests\/\">Los Angeles<\/a> and D.C. this summer, and 2,000 troops are still stationed in D.C. as part of the president\u2019s crackdown on crime in the nation\u2019s capital.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Trump argued that the intervention, which also included federalizing D.C. police officers, was necessary due to rampant crime in the nation\u2019s capital, a claim locals were quick to <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/leavitt-admits-fixing-dc-crime-stats-amid-doj-crime-probe\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/leavitt-admits-fixing-dc-crime-stats-amid-doj-crime-probe\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/leavitt-admits-fixing-dc-crime-stats-amid-doj-crime-probe\/\">push back on,<\/a> noting that violent crime in the District is at a <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/pr\/violent-crime-dc-hits-30-year-low&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/pr\/violent-crime-dc-hits-30-year-low\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-dc\/pr\/violent-crime-dc-hits-30-year-low\">30-year low<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Trump discussed his interest in making Chicago his next target on Friday, telling reporters, \u201cChicago\u2019s a mess. You have an incompetent mayor. Grossly incompetent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cAnd we\u2019ll straighten that one out probably next. That\u2019ll be our next one after this. Chip Somodevilla\/Getty Images <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Illinois Governor JB Pritzker posted a response to Trump\u2019s threats on X on Saturday evening, writing, \u201dThe State of Illinois at this time has received no requests or outreach from the federal government asking if we need assistance, and we have made no requests for federal intervention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He continued, \u201dThe safety of the people of Illinois is always my top priority. There is no emergency that warrants the President of the United States federalizing the [Illinois National Guard], deploying the National Guard from other states, or sending active duty military within our own borders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201dDonald Trump is attempting to manufacture a crisis, politicize Americans who serve in uniform, and continue abusing his power to distract from the pain he\u2019s causing families.
