{"id":171550,"date":"2025-08-24T11:24:46","date_gmt":"2025-08-24T11:24:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/171550\/"},"modified":"2025-08-24T11:24:46","modified_gmt":"2025-08-24T11:24:46","slug":"phoenix-bound-flight-forced-to-land-in-virginia-after-reports-of-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/171550\/","title":{"rendered":"Phoenix-bound flight forced to land in Virginia after reports of fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\"><b>PHOENIX (AZFamily)<\/b> \u2014 A flight bound for Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport was forced to divert and land after a fire was reported in the main cabin, officials say.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">According to the Federal Aviation Administration, American Airlines Flight 357 landed safely at Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia around 11:50 a.m. EST.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">American Airlines officials say crew members reported smoke coming from a \u201ccustomer\u2019s device.\u201d The FAA added that staff said the fire was coming from \u201cone of the passenger rows.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">Arizona\u2019s Family spoke with Xander Russell, a passenger on the flight, who said the fire was from a battery. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">\u201cThe smoke and fire was put out mid-air by passengers and flight attendants. It happened in row 31. The medical emergency was a woman in front of me that had asthma and needed oxygen cause the smoke-filled cabin,\u201d Russell wrote in a message to Arizona\u2019s Family. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"A flight bound for Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport was forced to divert and land after a fire was...\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/LSODVPB7KFFSPCJFRI35FVZW4Y.png\" width=\"980\" height=\"551\" \/>A flight bound for Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport was forced to divert and land after a fire was reported in the main cabin, officials say.(Xander Russell)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">The fire was quickly contained by crew members before landing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">\u201cCustomers and crew deplaned normally. We appreciate the professionalism of our crew and thank our team who are working to get our customers to their destination as quickly as possible,\u201d a spokesperson for American Airlines said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">The flight was heading from Philadelphia International Airport to Phoenix. On board the aircraft were 160 passengers and six crew members.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | text-start article-text\">The FAA is continuing to investigate the incident.
