These players generally bounce back and forth between the NBA and G League, but remain under team control and can\u2019t be poached by rival franchises.<\/p>\n<p><strong>[RELATED: <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2023\/08\/hoops-rumors-glossary-two-way-contract.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Hoops Rumors Glossary: Two-Way Contract<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While we can expect the NBA-wide total to hover at or near 90 for much of the regular season, many teams have yet to fill all of their two-way slots for the 2025\/26 campaign. That isn\u2019t surprising, since we\u2019re still about five weeks away from the start of training camps and two months away from the beginning of the regular season.<\/p>\n<p>As our <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/07\/2025-26-nba-two-way-contract-tracker.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">2025\/26 two-way contract tracker<\/a> shows, 14 NBA teams still have open two-way spots for a total of 18 two-way openings. Two more are reportedly spoken for \u2014 Timberwolves restricted free agent guard <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/n\/newtotr01.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>Tristen Newton<\/strong><\/a> is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/08\/tristen-newton-signs-qualifying-offer-from-timberwolves.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">expected<\/a> to sign his two-way qualifying offer and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/carlsbr01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-02_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Branden Carlson<\/a><\/strong> is <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/07\/thunder-to-re-sign-branden-carlson-on-two-way-deal.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">expected<\/a> to complete a two-way deal with the Thunder.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s the current breakdown of the two-way openings across the league:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teams with multiple open two-way slots<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Golden State Warriors (2)<\/li>\n<li>New York Knicks (3)<\/li>\n<li>Oklahoma City Thunder (2)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Some of these spots may already be spoken for. As we noted above, Carlson is expected to sign a two-way contract with the <strong>Thunder<\/strong>. The <strong>Warriors<\/strong> have a two-way qualifying offer on the table for <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/a\/armstta02.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-02_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Taran Armstrong<\/a><\/strong>, while the <strong>Knicks<\/strong> (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/m\/mcculke01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-02_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kevin McCullar Jr.<\/a><\/strong>) also have a two-way restricted free agent who has yet to sign.<\/p>\n<p>Some of these clubs also have second-round picks from this year\u2019s draft who look like logical candidates for two-way spots. Golden State selected <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tooheal01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-02_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Alex Toohey<\/a><\/strong> at No. 52 and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/r\/richawi02.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-02_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Will Richard<\/a><\/strong> at No. 56 \u2014 it would be a surprise if at least one of them doesn\u2019t end up on a two-way deal. New York has yet to sign No. 51 pick <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/d\/diawamo01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-02_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Mohamed Diawara<\/a><\/strong>, though he\u2019s a candidate for a standard roster spot, as we discussed <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/08\/knicks-prospect-james-nnaji-parts-ways-with-barcelona.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">earlier this month<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teams with one open two-way slot<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Brooklyn Nets<\/li>\n<li>Cleveland Cavaliers<\/li>\n<li>Dallas Mavericks<\/li>\n<li>Los Angeles Lakers<\/li>\n<li>Memphis Grizzlies<\/li>\n<li>Miami Heat<\/li>\n<li>Minnesota Timberwolves<\/li>\n<li>Orlando Magic<\/li>\n<li>Portland Trail Blazers<\/li>\n<li>Utah Jazz<\/li>\n<li>Washington Wizards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Minnesota\u2019s inclusion in this section is likely a formality, since Newton is reportedly returning on a two-way deal. Utah also has yet to sign No. 53 overall pick <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/t\/tonjejo01.html?utm_medium=linker&amp;utm_source=www.hoopsrumors.com&amp;utm_campaign=2025-08-02_bbr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">John Tonje<\/a><\/strong>, who could be earmarked for the Jazz\u2019s last two-way spot.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s not a single clear-cut candidate for all of these openings though, so agents whose clients are seeking an 18-man roster spot will likely reach out to these clubs to see how they intend to use their third two-way contract slots.<\/p>\n<p>Players with NBA experience who sign Exhibit 10 deals for training camp are also candidates to monitor, since some of them are also eligible for two-way deals and could be converted before the season begins. <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.basketball-reference.com\/players\/c\/castlco01.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><strong>Colin Castleton<\/strong><\/a> (Orlando) is a <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hoopsrumors.com\/2025\/08\/magic-to-sign-colin-castleton-to-exhibit-10-deal.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">recent example<\/a> of a player who fits this bill.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Teams with no two-way openings<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Atlanta Hawks<\/li>\n<li>Boston Celtics<\/li>\n<li>Charlotte Hornets<\/li>\n<li>Chicago Bulls<\/li>\n<li>Denver Nuggets<\/li>\n<li>Detroit Pistons<\/li>\n<li>Houston Rockets<\/li>\n<li>Indiana Pacers<\/li>\n<li>Los Angeles Clippers<\/li>\n<li>Milwaukee Bucks<\/li>\n<li>New Orleans Pelicans<\/li>\n<li>Philadelphia 76ers<\/li>\n<li>Phoenix Suns<\/li>\n<li>Sacramento Kings<\/li>\n<li>San Antonio Spurs<\/li>\n<li>Toronto Raptors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In theory, these 16 teams are good to go for training camp.
