We have resolved our differences and take full responsibility for our actions. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have apologized to our immediate and extended family, and now extend our apologies to Kansas State University, its alumni, and fans. We regret this incident, have learned from it, and are committed to ensuring it doesn\u2019t happen again. Please accept our deepest apologies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/LifeofFitz\/status\/1959386454179881344\">247Sports\u2018\u00a0<strong>Tim Fitzgerald<\/strong>\u00a0reported Saturday night<\/a>\u00a0that Avery Johnson\u2019s father, Mark, and his older brother got into a physical confrontation postgame. The two men reportedly got into a disagreement at the stadium.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGoPowercat.com has confirmed that there was a postgame confrontation at Aviva Stadium involving\u00a0<strong>Mark Johnson<\/strong>, father of\u00a0<strong>Kansas State<\/strong>\u00a0quarterback\u00a0<strong>Avery Johnson<\/strong>, and another man believed to be Mr. Johnson\u2019s eldest son,\u201d Fitzgerald wrote. \u201cAccording to witnesses, the conflict turned physical. According to one source, no arrests were made stemming from this incident. There is reportedly video of the disagreement and at least one eye witness is tied to\u00a0<strong>Kansas State<\/strong>\u00a0athletics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Avery Johnson was at the center of a controversial fourth-down attempt with just over eight minutes remaining in the game, a 24-21 loss, while the score was still 17-14 in favor of\u00a0<strong>Iowa State<\/strong>.\u00a0<strong>Kansas State<\/strong>\u00a0was faced with a 4th &amp; 1 at its own 30-yard line and decided to attempt the fourth-down conversion. Johnson kept it himself and rolled out left, but was tackled a half-yard short of the first-down line.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Iowa State<\/strong>\u00a0took over at the\u00a0<strong>Kansas State<\/strong>\u00a030-yard line and scored just four plays later, making it 24-14 Cyclones. Head coach\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/coach\/chris-klieman-133232\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chris Klieman<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0defended the decision to attempt to roll Johnson out on the fourth-down conversion postgame.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would do the same thing again, based on how the game was going with us struggling to slow those guys,\u201d Klieman\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/KellisRobinett\/status\/1959351353538499010\">said via Kellis Robinett of the Kansas City Star<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kansas State<\/strong>\u00a0scored on its next offensive play courtesy of a 65-yard passing touchdown from<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Johnson\u00a0to wide receiver\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/rivals\/jerand-bradley-59971\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jerand Bradley<\/a><\/strong>, making it a 24-21 game.\u00a0<strong>Iowa State<\/strong>\u00a0however successfully ran the clock out to secure the season-opening Big 12 win.<\/p>\n<p>Klieman and his team\u2019s inability to secure the fourth-down conversion did not quite come back to cost them the game, but it certainly was extremely instrumental. It appeared as if Johnson may have actually churned enough to reach the yard to gain, but the referees ruled in favor of the Cyclones.<\/p>\n<p>Following the loss,\u00a0<strong>Kansas State<\/strong>\u00a0opens the season 0-1 for the first time since 2020 (lost to\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.on3.com\/college\/arkansas-state-red-wolves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arkansas State<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0in season opener). Even more importantly however, it already finds itself one game back in the race for the Big 12 crown.
