If you go back to every major conflict in human history, they all end with some kind of negotiation,\u201d Vance said.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">JD Vance: &#8220;This is how wars ultimately get settled. If you go back to World War 2, if you go back to every major conflict in human history, they all end with some kind of negotiation.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/FB4VJgljG5\">pic.twitter.com\/FB4VJgljG5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/atrupar\/status\/1959620851369701496?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">August 24, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Unfortunately for Vance, World War II not brought to an end, but came to a close with the unconditional surrender of Germany on May 7, 1945, and Japan on September 2, 1945.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cVance says WWII ended in negotiation -someone tell that to Hiroshima,\u201d one user wrote on X.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Another added, \u201cWorld War 2 ended with the exact opposite of a negotiation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">During the interview, Welker brought up the concern that <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/trump-aide-undercuts-boss-with-disappointing-take-on-putin-talks\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/trump-aide-undercuts-boss-with-disappointing-take-on-putin-talks\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/trump-aide-undercuts-boss-with-disappointing-take-on-putin-talks\/\">Ukraine was expected to accept the loss of territory<\/a> illegally seized by the Russians to end the war, which <a onclick=\"_sendArticleBodyInlineLinkClickAnalytics(&#039;https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/keyword\/volodymyr-zelensky\/&#039;)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/keyword\/volodymyr-zelensky\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.thedailybeast.com\/keyword\/volodymyr-zelensky\/\">President Volodymyr Zelensky<\/a> has made clear he has no interest in doing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cFirst of all, the Ukrainians are going to ultimately make the determination about where you draw the territorial lines in their own country,\u201d Vance responded.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"Vance seemingly didn't realise that unconditional surrender, not negotiation, ended the Second World War.\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/5HJJOKG46RFSNIXPUV5T2Q25S4.png\"  width=\"800\" height=\"446\"\/>Vance seemingly didn&#8217;t realise that unconditional surrender, not negotiation, ended the Second World War. NBC News <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">After sidestepping the implications of Ukraine having to make territorial concessions, Vance suggested that finding \u201cmiddle ground\u201d was \u201chow wars ultimately get settled.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Vance also described the US\u2019 new role as being \u201cnot active parties in the negotiation, we\u2019re effectively mediating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">He added, \u201cIf Ukrainians are willing to say something on territory that brings the conflict to a close, we\u2019re not going to stop them.
