\n\tAs the 007<\/a> casting speculation reaches across the pond, Austin Butler<\/a> is taking himself out of the running.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Oscar nominee admitted it \u201cwould be kind of sacrilegious\u201d for him to play the British MI6 agent as a California-born-and-raised actor, despite his willingness to work with his Dune: Part Two<\/a> (2024) director Denis Villeneuve<\/a> again.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cNo calls as far as that goes, but I love that man,\u201d he told Hits Radio UK<\/a>. \u201cWould I play James Bond<\/a>? I don\u2019t think that would be a good idea. Because I\u2019m an American. I can do an accent but that would be kind of sacrilegious. <\/p>\n

\n\tButler continued, \u201cThose movies meant so much to me, but I think that it\u2019s gotta be somebody who is from [England].\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tOn the other hand, \u201cVillain? That would be alright. I\u2019d do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tGlen Powell<\/a> previously gave the same answer, telling The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>, \u201cA Texan should not play James Bond.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn June, Amazon MGM Studios officially tapped Villeneuve to direct the next installment<\/a>, and last month, Steven Knight was announced to write the film<\/a> amid the studio\u2019s new 007 partnership with returning producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson. Tanya Lapointe will executive produce.<\/p>\n

\n\tAfter announcing that Amy Pascal and David Heyman will produce the next film<\/a> in the franchise, Amazon MGM\u2019s Courtenay Valenti and Sue Kroll said at CinemaCon in April that the pair of \u201cfilmmaking legends\u201d is currently in London working on the film<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tDaniel Craig played the iconic role in Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015) and No Time to Die (2021). Following previous Bond stars Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan, Craig\u2019s successor has not yet been chosen.<\/p>\n
