The Raiders are looking for a new quarterback.<\/p>\n

Not a starter \u2014 but not a prospect, either.<\/p>\n

Pete Carroll weighed in Sunday on the Raiders\u2019 quarterback challenges following Aidan O\u2019Connell\u2019s wrist fracture in the team\u2019s final preseason game, calling the injury \u201ca big blow\u201d to the team.<\/p>\n

Carroll acknowledged that O\u2019Connell\u2019s recovery will take time and that the team will be looking for an experienced quarterback to solidify the backup spot to newly acquired Geno Smith.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll possibilities are available right now, wherever they come from,\u201d Carroll said. \u201cWe\u2019re looking everywhere to see the best guy that fits us. So if you don\u2019t mind, I\u2019m not gonna lay out exactly what we\u2019re looking for here, I don\u2019t want to show our hand. But I want somebody who\u2019s played, that\u2019s what\u2019s important. A guy that\u2019s had game experience is really huge to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Outside of Smith and O\u2019Connell, the Raiders are expected to roster Cam Miller of North Dakota State, who was selected in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.<\/p>\n

Still, Carroll and the Raiders seem to want experience behind Smith, as the team attempts to make the playoffs for the first time since the 2021 postseason.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have Cam,\u201d Carroll said, \u201cand Cam hasn\u2019t played in the league much. So we\u2019re looking for an experienced player who can help us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Carroll also touched on the team\u2019s broader competitive nature just this past week.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m always looking for more competition, but it is apparent that in all different phases of our team, we have guys that are battling to push to get their spots,\u201d he said<\/a>. \u201cAnd we\u2019re trying to give them opportunities with the higher group to show that they can match up and all that. And it\u2019s exactly what this program is all about.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo the more competitive we can make it, the longer it can keep the competitiveness alive. We don\u2019t need to make any big decisions right away. We\u2019ll take our time at it and let it continue to factor in. Guys coming into the program and a new guy comes in today, [Terrell] Edmunds comes in today, guys take note of that. They know that we\u2019re still looking, we\u2019re still trying to get this as competitive as we could possibly get. So we\u2019ll be pushing that way forever, but right now it\u2019s really apparent.\u201d<\/p>\n

That is in line, seemingly, with the Raiders\u2019 mentality following the injury to O\u2019Connell. <\/p>\n
