{"id":173393,"date":"2025-08-25T04:05:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T04:05:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/173393\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T04:05:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T04:05:14","slug":"officials-declare-nyc-beaches-have-high-rip-current-risk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/173393\/","title":{"rendered":"Officials declare NYC beaches have high rip current risk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RZSZFZR32JBWVP6DIY6FQTSBUM\">A heavy rip current warning has been issued for beaches in New York on Sunday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RCX324NHABEIVKCVMSXX4NHG5Q\">The life-threatening rip current conditions are expected to be in affect through 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, according to an alert issued by New York City Emergency Management. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"VTW6R2FQVVFXLAESP3TMW2EWMI\">Even strong swimmers are being told not to go into the water and follow posted red flag warnings. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"U3EES2V6JBCHXH22UF7HC57WBU\">According to the National Weather Service, almost all beaches facing the Atlantic Ocean in the New York City area including New Jersey and Long Island, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/beach\/forecast?site=okx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/beach\/forecast?site=okx\">are under a high rip current risk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"664CO4YCNZDEDFNOFOWH76UBA4\">Earlier on Sunday, Gov. Kathy Hochul <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/news\/2025\/08\/swimming-to-resume-at-these-new-york-beaches-after-dangerous-surf-conditions.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/news\/2025\/08\/swimming-to-resume-at-these-new-york-beaches-after-dangerous-surf-conditions.html\">announced that swimming would resume at all Long Island State Park ocean beaches<\/a> now that the rough conditions have begun to die down.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"U5M227K7JBDSPG4QXBBHACHT3I\">However, a release from the governor\u2019s office does warn that some beachgoers might still run into swimming restrictions at some beaches based on local conditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"2VJ2PNWSSZHOROXTLU5UX5GDGU\">As Hurricane Erin swung towards the north Atlantic, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/weather\/2025\/08\/hurricane-erin-threatens-nyc-with-high-surf-potential-coastal-flooding.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.silive.com\/weather\/2025\/08\/hurricane-erin-threatens-nyc-with-high-surf-potential-coastal-flooding.html\">beaches along the eastern seaboard<\/a>were closed out of precaution due to life-threatening high surf, dangerous rip currents and potential beach flooding caused by the storm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"HBJTQWASXRCSPCN6H7DE2AFWMY\">New York City prohibited swimming at all city beaches due to the effects of the storm, but left the sand open for visitors.<\/p>\n<p>If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
