Mike Lawler (R-NY) endorsed the possibility of President Trump sending National Guard troops to New York to fight City crime.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d rather all of the above,\u201d Lawler said Sunday of the National Guard being deployed alongside the FBI and local police in response to questions on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gSpoG9T7XiQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS\u2019 \u201cFace the Nation.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rep. Lawler appeared on \u201cFace the Nation.\u201d CBS\/Face the Nation<\/p>\n<p>Host Margaret Brennan asked the New York rep if he was comfortable using federal taxpayer dollars to deploy the troops to the Empire State \u2014 something that Trump has floated doing, like he has in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCrime has been a problem in New York for years, and [Gov.] Kathy Hochul in Albany and New York City Democrats have failed miserably to tackle this crisis,\u201d Lawler shot back.<\/p>\n<p>He also pointed out that Hochul mobilized National Guard troops to patrol the subway system in New York.<\/p>\n<p>The governor deployed 750 guardsmen in March 2024 to do bag checks in the city\u2019s subways after a series of underground attacks, including the slashing of a train conductor and passengers being pushed onto the tracks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Crime in New York dipped in the beginning of 2025 when compared to the same time last year, according to NYPD statistics. Murder rates went down 14%, with a 7.8% decrease in burglaries and a 7.1% dip in robberies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>National Guard members patrolling the National Mall on Aug. 23. AP<\/p>\n<p>But rapes were troublingly up 20% when compared to June this time last year, apparently partly due to the expansion of the legal definition of rape.<\/p>\n<p>Lawler\u2019s endorsement comes amid repeated shootings in some neighborhoods of Brookly and the Bronx.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>An apparent gang-related shooting broke out Saturday night at a Bronx park, leaving one dead, four injured and four arrested during a basketball tournament near Haffen Park.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s focus on crime ramped up after a former Department of Government Efficiency staffer, Edward Coristine \u2014 known as \u201cBig Balls\u201d \u2014 was attacked by a group of teenagers in DC after he tried to intervene\u00a0to prevent a carjacking.<\/p>\n<p>President Trump speaks at the White House on Aug. 22. AP<\/p>\n<p>The National Guard troops deployed to the nation\u2019s capital have not been making arrests, but have been working alongside the FBI and local police to take town crime in DC.<\/p>\n<p>Trump said Friday his next focus on crime crackdown will be in Chicago, and NYC will be next after that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Chicago will be our next [stop] and then we\u2019ll help with New York,\u201d he said in the Oval Office.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Rep.
