{"id":173563,"date":"2025-08-25T05:36:22","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T05:36:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/173563\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T05:36:22","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T05:36:22","slug":"big-homer-for-the-big-dumper-cal-raleigh-sets-single-season-catcher-hr-record","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/173563\/","title":{"rendered":"Big Homer for The Big Dumper: Cal Raleigh Sets Single-Season Catcher HR Record"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"ff-h fs-16 lh-1pt6 mg-b-15 article-content\" data-v-f4e318d2=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com\/mlb\/cal-raleigh-player\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cal Raleigh<\/a>&#8216;s 2025 season officially stands alone among all catchers in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com\/mlb\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MLB<\/a> history.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"ff-h fs-16 lh-1pt6 mg-b-15 article-content\" data-v-f4e318d2=\"\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com\/mlb\/seattle-mariners-team\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Seattle Mariners<\/a>&#8216; slugger hit two home runs on Sunday, giving him 49 on the season and breaking <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com\/mlb\/kansas-city-royals-team\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kansas City Royals<\/a> star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com\/mlb\/salvador-perez-player\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Salvador Perez&#8217;s<\/a> record for the most home runs hit in a single season by a catcher (48).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"ff-h fs-16 lh-1pt6 mg-b-15 article-content\" data-v-f4e318d2=\"\">The switch-hitting Raleigh, batting from the right side, homered off <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com\/mlb\/oakland-athletics-team\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Athletics<\/a> left-handed starter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com\/mlb\/jacob-lopez-player\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jacob Lopez<\/a> in the first inning to make it 2-0 and tie Perez. Raleigh got a fastball right down the middle from Lopez and ripped it an estimated 448 feet, according to Statcast. It was measured as the longest run of Raleigh&#8217;s career as a right-handed hitter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ff-h fs-16 lh-1pt6 mg-b-15 article-content\" data-v-f4e318d2=\"\">In the following inning, Raleigh drilled a changeup from Lopez 412 feet. The longballs were Nos. 39 and 40 on the season for Raleigh as a catcher this year. He has nine while serving as a designated hitter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ff-h fs-16 lh-1pt6 mg-b-15 article-content\" data-v-f4e318d2=\"\">Perez hit 15 home runs as a DH in his record-setting season in 2021, and 33 at catcher.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ff-h fs-16 lh-1pt6 mg-b-15 article-content\" data-v-f4e318d2=\"\">Only four other players in big league history have hit at least 40 homers in a season while primarily playing catcher: Johnny Bench (twice), Roy Campanella, Todd Hundley and Mike Piazza (twice). Bench, Campanella and Piazza are Hall of Famers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ff-h fs-16 lh-1pt6 mg-b-15 article-content\" data-v-f4e318d2=\"\">Raleigh launched 27 homers in 2022, then 30 in 2023 and 34 last season. Should he continue at his powerful pace, Raleigh could become the first American League catcher ever to lead the major leagues outright in home runs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ff-h fs-16 lh-1pt6 mg-b-15 article-content\" data-v-f4e318d2=\"\">A first-time All-Star at age 28, Raleigh burst onto the national scene when he won the All-Star Home Run Derby in July. He became the first switch-hitter and first catcher to win the title. He\u2019s the second Mariners player to take the crown, after three-time winner Ken Griffey Jr.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ff-h fs-16 lh-1pt6 mg-b-15 article-content\" data-v-f4e318d2=\"\">With 31 games to go in the regular season, Raleigh also has an excellent chance of passing Griffey&#8217;s franchise record of 56 home runs in a season.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ff-h fs-16 lh-1pt6 mg-b-15 article-content\" data-v-f4e318d2=\"\">Raleigh\u2019s homer gave him 104 RBIs on the season.
