{"id":173686,"date":"2025-08-25T06:44:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T06:44:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/173686\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T06:44:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T06:44:14","slug":"emma-meessemans-arrival-still-hasnt-sparked-struggling-liberty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/173686\/","title":{"rendered":"Emma Meesseman&#8217;s arrival still hasn&#8217;t sparked struggling Liberty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ATLANTA \u2014 Emma Meesseman completed her 10th game with the Liberty on Saturday, but the outcome of her first three weeks has not been what she \u2014 or anyone else within the organization \u2014 wanted.<\/p>\n<p>The Libs have gone 5-5 since Meesseman <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/21\/sports\/liberty-signing-emma-meesseman-in-wnba-free-agency-coup\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">signed on Aug. 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Meesseman has reached double-digit scoring in all but one game and averaged 13.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists.<\/p>\n<p>Despite her individual success, Meesseman is keeping her attention focused on the team level and isn\u2019t satisfied with the team outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m just looking at the result and looking at the result, it\u2019s always a tough game,\u201d Messeman told The Post. \u201cI feel like we\u2019re making it very hard on ourselves sometimes. NBAE via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Meesseman decided this summer to return to the WNBA after a nearly three-year hiatus not only because of the league\u2019s boom in popularity, but because she wanted to help the Liberty defend their 2024 title.<\/p>\n<p>Joining a team midseason is hard for any player, including a veteran of Meesseman\u2019s status. <\/p>\n<p>But the Liberty\u2019s injuries have exacerbated the challenges of her integration.<\/p>\n<p>Meesseman had played alongside or against most of the Liberty roster prior to her signing. <\/p>\n<p>She also has familiarity with Sandy Brondello and assistant coaches Olaf Lange and Andrew Wade.<\/p>\n<p>Emma Meesseman tries to attempt a shot during the Liberty\u2019s Aug. 23 loss to the Dream. Jordan Godfree-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p>But Meesseman is still learning the tendencies of those teammates who were unfamiliar to her.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know how I can play or something, so in the beginning I could do all that and now we\u2019re just still trying to [learn] each other because we keep losing pieces,\u201d Meesseman said. \u201cBut that\u2019s how it is. There\u2019s no excuses at this point, but I don\u2019t know. There\u2019s no answer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even with Meesseman, the Liberty continue to deal with the same issues as before.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCovering the Liberty like never before\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tSign up for Madeline Kenney&#8217;s Inside the Liberty, a weekly Sports+ newsletter.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThank you\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The only consistent trends lately have been bad ones.<\/p>\n<p>They continue to struggle with rebounding and stopping opponents from crashing the offensive glass.<\/p>\n<p>The Liberty are surrendering too many possessions with their poor execution on the boards.<\/p>\n<p>Careless turnovers and losing the battle of the boards are hurting the Liberty\u2019s chances of repeating.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do know that you have to be good in those in order to win,\u201d Meesseman said. \u201cBut I\u2019m also confident that we should be able to overcome it. But it\u2019s not enough to talk about it, I think, at this point. Because we know.
