There is a new sign that it might just be on, however.

Liverpool went into this summer with a lot to do. We’ve already seen most of it happen, in fact, as they’ve signed Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Armin Pecsi and Milos Kerkez.

Those moves solve a lot of problems, which is nice because we’re not even in July yet. But Liverpool replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold, replaced Caoimhin Kelleher, signed a superstar to succeed Mo Salah and found their next Andy Robertson.

But there’s still more to do. Liverpool have wanted a new no.9 since January, with one name sitting pretty at the top of their shortlist: Alexander Isak.

The Swede was the best striker in the Premier League last season. There’s a solid argument that he was the best all-around in Europe, in fact.

The problem is that Newcastle United don’t particularly want to sell their star player. Liverpool are hoping to persuade them to do just that with an incredible amount of money.

And we might have gotten a sign that this is exactly what’s happening.

Newcastle United plan major spend

Newcastle qualified for the UEFA Champions League last season and they’re hoping to take advantage. The Magpies want to boost their squad as significantly as possible, with players eager to head there right now.

But they’re running into the same old issue: Premier League PSR. Newcastle don’t have too much room to manoeuvre and it’s becoming a bit of a problem with some of the deals they’re planning.

So the fact the Telegraph are reporting a £125m spend raises eyebrows. Newcastle don’t obviously have that kind of money available to them, not after squeezing past the line for PSR a year ago.

At least, they don’t appear to have it without a sale.

Isak would unquestionably fix their PSR problems, freeing up an incredible amount of space and allowing for a major squad upgrade. The fact a £50m striker is on their shortlist in Joao Pedro keeps those eyebrows firmly in the air, too.

This is a genuine sign that Newcastle are open to selling, especially after Nottingham Forest rejected their opening bid for Anthony Elanga. The Magpies need money if they’re to get all their moves done – Liverpool are happy to give it to them.

Liverpool want to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle United but it’s an incredibly difficult deal to make happen.…

[45
3678,11989,16868,16865,2366,2368,16867,215,2370,16866,16863,16869,220,221,62,16864,6426,67,132,68
0":"post-17406","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-soccer","8":"tag-alexander-isak","9":"tag-andy-robertson","10":"tag-anthony-elanga","11":"tag-caoimhin-kelleher","12":"tag-florian-wirtz","13":"tag-jeremie-frimpong","14":"tag-joao-pedro","15":"tag-liverpool","16":"tag-milos-kerkez","17":"tag-mo-salah","18":"tag-newcastle-united","19":"tag-nottingham-forest","20":"tag-premier-league","21":"tag-soccer","22":"tag-sports","23":"tag-the-magpies","24":"tag-trent-alexander-arnold","25":"tag-united-states","26":"tag-unitedstates","27":"tag-us
["GET
