{"id":174095,"date":"2025-08-25T10:31:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T10:31:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/174095\/"},"modified":"2025-08-25T10:31:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T10:31:14","slug":"perth-shivers-through-coldest-day-in-50-years-as-residents-marvel-at-rain-hail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/174095\/","title":{"rendered":"Perth shivers through coldest day in 50 years as residents marvel at rain, hail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Perth has shivered through its coldest day in 50 years, recording a maximum of just 11.4C on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">It has not been since July 29, 1975 (when the maximum was also 11.4C) that the temperature in Perth has stayed so low during the day, with the city also copping a lashing from rain and hail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">It is also the coldest August day ever recorded at the Perth weather station in Mt Lawley, with the previous lowest maximum in August being 12.1C in 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Meteorologist Grace Abbott said the frosty weather was down to a cold front moving over land.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cWe had a cold front move over the State yesterday morning and behind that cold front we\u2019ve seen a very cold air mass coming up from the South West,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">\u201cThat\u2019s helped drop those temperatures over much of the South West Land division today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"css-1ix6vwn-StyledParagraph e4e0a020\">Perth has also had a very wet month, with nearly 170mm of rain falling so far \u2014 almost 50mm more than the monthly average and just 16mm away from the August record.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/2152e726aa9b8b82330cca2bde06af127a94c338.jpg\" alt=\"A koala huddles form the cold and rain during the cold weather at Perth Zoo.\" class=\"css-16r7l45-StyledImage en5ut4d0\"\/>Camera IconA koala huddles form the cold and rain during the cold weather at Perth Zoo.
