New Haven’s full value tax rate was the 14th-highest in all of New York in 2024.

Nearly all of the towns with the highest full value tax rates in Central New York last year were in Oswego County.

Three Onondaga County towns made the top 10 in the region. Geddes’ full value tax rate of $7.43 was No. 7 in Central New York, Tully’s rate of $7.34 was eighth and Camillus’ rate of $6.93 was 10th.

You can see details on CNY towns with the highest tax rates in the table below. If you can’t see the table, click here to open it in a new window.

The towns are ranked by full-value tax rate, which shows the total levy in each town per $1,000 of the full taxable value of all property in the town.

The metric helps measure the overall property tax burden in each town. It’s based on full property valuations, not assessed values, so it is generally comparable across towns, the comptroller’s office says.

It also means the rates will be different than those on your tax bill, which are based on assessed values.

The numbers are from 2024, the most recent year available from the comptroller’s office.

The fact that so many Oswego County towns are on the list of those with the highest rates is partially a reflection of low property values.

Communities with low property values, like those in Oswego County, often have higher tax rates than those with greater property values, according to the Lincoln Institute, a nonprofit that researches land use policy. That’s because it takes a higher rate in low-value places to raise the same amount of money a smaller rate would in a spot with higher values.

It’s one reason why communities like Skaneateles, for example, tend to have lower full value rates. Property values there are much higher than the rest of the county.

You can see details of the 10 Central New York communities with the lowest full value tax rates in the table below.
