\n\tSnoop Dogg<\/a> recently appeared on the\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s Giving\u201d\u00a0podcast<\/a> (via Entertainment Weekly<\/a>) and spoke about being \u201cscared\u201d to bring his grandchildren to the movies after watching 2022\u2019s \u201cLightyear<\/a>,\u201d Pixar<\/a>\u2018s \u201cToy Story\u201d spinoff featuring the voice of Chris Evans. The rapper brought his grandson to watch the animated movie but did not expect to have to field questions about same-sex couples, as the movie features a montage in which two mothers are seen raising their child.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThey\u2019re like, \u2018She had a baby \u2014 with another woman.\u2019 Well, my grandson, in the middle of the movie is like, \u2018Papa Snoop? How she have a baby with a woman? She\u2019s a woman!’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSnoop remembered thinking, \u201cOh shit, I didn\u2019t come in for this shit. I just came to watch the goddamn movie.’\u201d His grandson continued to double down on what he saw: \u201c\u2018They just said, she and she had a baby \u2014 they\u2019re both women. How does she have a baby?’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt fucked me up,\u201d Snoop said. \u201cI\u2019m like, scared to go to the movies. Y\u2019all throwing me in the middle of shit that I don\u2019t have an answer for\u2026 It threw me for a loop. I\u2019m like, \u2018What part of the movie was this?\u2019 These are kids. We have to show that at this age? They\u2019re going to ask questions. I don\u2019t have the answer.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cLightyear\u201d not only featured one of Disney and Pixar\u2019s most prominent LGBTQ+ characters, but it also depicted its first same-sex kiss in a movie. As reported by Variety<\/a>, the moment sparked widespread controversy internally at Pixar after the studio considered cutting the same-sex kiss. Employees and allies at\u00a0Pixar\u00a0sent a joint statement<\/a>\u00a0to Walt\u00a0Disney\u00a0Company leadership claiming that Disney executives had actively censored \u201covertly gay affection\u201d in its feature films.\u00a0They did not want \u201cLightyear\u201d to be the latest example. The studio reinstated the kiss as a result.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI mean, it\u2019s great,\u201d Chris Evans later told Variety.<\/a> \u201cAs great as it is \u2014 and you know, I\u2019ve been asked the question a few times \u2014 it\u2019s nice, and it\u2019s wonderful, it makes me happy. It\u2019s tough to not be a little frustrated that it even has to be a topic of discussion. That it is this kind of \u2018news.\u2019 The goal is that we can get to a point where it is the norm, and that this doesn\u2019t have to be some uncharted waters, that eventually this is just the way it is. That representation across the board is how we make films. Look, it\u2019s an honor to be a part of something that is taking those steps, but the goal is to look back on this time and just be shocked that it took us this long to get there.\u201d<\/p>\n
