The new era of Patriots football has a rat problem, and everyone seems to be having a way with it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

New coach Mike Vrabel created the narrative when he posted a GIF from \u201cThe Departed\u201d in the wake of\u00a0a report emerging that receiver Ja\u2019Lynn Polk needed season-ending surgery<\/a>. Asked to elaborate, Vrabel provided some context.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI love how you take everything I say and just run. You get all nervous,\u201d Vrabel told reporters. \u201cThere\u2019s rats all over the place \u2014 whether that\u2019s inside this building, outside this building, I just love the flow of information.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI just felt inclined, and I was pissed off because we stunk and we couldn\u2019t do anything, so I tried to entertain you guys a little bit. I was ready to get home and get back to Foxboro.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thursday\u2019s report came from NFL insider Jordan Schultz<\/a>, who tweeted that Polk would need season-ending shoulder surgery and land on injured reserve.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe 2024 second-round pick saw multiple specialists, and surgery was determined to be the best course of action \u2014 with the goal of being fully healthy for 2026,\u201d Schultz tweeted.<\/p>\n

Ben Volin, a reporter for the Boston Globe, guessed that the \u201crat\u201d is an agent. <\/p>\n

Joey Murr of\u00a098.5 The Sports Hub<\/a>\u00a0believes that it is Patriots executive Eliot Wolf.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI was sniffing around, what\u2019s this all about, because sometimes the local guys are getting the info where? Probably internally, I would assume,\u201d Murr said. \u201cIf we had a rat sheet, oh yeah, rat No. 1 Eliot Wolf. The draft class sucks, and if\u00a0Ja\u2019Lynn Polk\u00a0is done for another year, what\u2019s the defense? Why would he put that out there to a national reporter, who has relationships with agents, who has relationships with players. This is defending the 2024 draft class, which has absolutely been a bust.\u201d<\/p>\n
