Audrey Corley, a local business owner and longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion, will be honored with the Phoenix Mercury\u2019s Believe in Women Award during the team\u2019s PRIDE Day game on Saturday, June 29.<\/p>\n
The award, presented in partnership with Fry\u2019s Food Stores, recognizes women who are making a meaningful impact in sports, community, and equity. Corley will be recognized during halftime of the Mercury\u2019s game against the Las Vegas Aces at PHX Arena. Tipoff is at 3 p.m.<\/p>\n
Corley is the owner of two well-known Phoenix establishments\u2014Boycott Bar, one of the last remaining lesbian bars in the country, and Title 9 Sports Grill, a gathering place for WNBA fans and supporters of women\u2019s sports. Both spaces have become known as welcoming, inclusive venues that celebrate diversity and build community.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me, basketball saved my life,\u201d Corley said. \u201cIt gave me purpose, direction, and a sense of community when I needed it most. To now be honored for creating spaces that offer that same connection for others\u2014especially queer women and fans of women\u2019s sports\u2014is incredibly moving.\u201d<\/p>\n
Boycott Bar has gained national attention through features in The Lesbian Bar Project, while Title 9 Sports Grill has become a popular game-day destination for Phoenix Mercury fans. Corley\u2019s work aligns with the goals of the Believe in Women initiative, which seeks to uplift those advocating for visibility and empowerment of women, LGBTQ+ individuals, and communities of color.<\/p>\n
