Keith Harris, owner of Mobile Kings Barbershop, said the custom trailer \u2014 worth $40,000 \u2014 was taken from Devon Self Storage on the 600 block of SW Loop 410 on Aug. 13 around 2 p.m. The theft has not only impacted his livelihood but also the many people he serves free of charge.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was like, there\u2019s no way somebody stole my mobile barbershop from this spot,\u201d Harris said. \u201cIt\u2019s too big. And it\u2019s a lot of cameras here.\u201d<\/p>\n
For Harris, the mobile shop isn\u2019t just a business \u2014 it\u2019s a mission. The retired Marine offers free haircuts to veterans, people experiencing homelessness, and children who can\u2019t afford to pay.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy would someone steal my mobile barbershop when I\u2019m trying to help the community?\u201d he questioned.<\/p>\n
Harris said when he initially reported the theft, the on-site employee told him they were unaware the unit had been taken. However, the staff member did confirm the facility\u2019s security gate had been broken for several weeks.<\/p>\n
Nearly two weeks after August 13, Harris said a regional director with Devon Self Storage told him surveillance footage captured the theft. But Harris claims he was not provided with any names or details.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe told me they did find out who stole my mobile barbershop, and he had the footage,\u201d Harris said. \u201cBut he could not tell me exactly who took it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Harris believes a quicker response from the facility could have helped police recover the trailer sooner.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s no way you\u2019re going to find something stolen after two weeks,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
As the investigation continues, Harris has launched a GoFundMe campaign<\/a> asking for the community’s support.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not their stuff that\u2019s stolen or missing,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s no fire under them to make things happen fast.\u201d<\/p>\n
