Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The Raiders were in the market for a backup quarterback after Aidan O\u2019Connell <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/24\/sports\/raiders-in-market-for-experienced-qb-after-aidan-oconnell-injury\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">fractured his wrist during their final preseason game<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Pickett also made some NFL history in the deal, becoming the second quarterback in the last 30 years to get traded at least three times in his first four seasons, according to NFL Network \u2014 joining Sam Howell.<\/p>\n<p>It marked the second quarterback move the Browns have made across the last two days, as they <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/24\/sports\/browns-cut-tyler-huntley-with-shedeur-sanders-set-to-be-one-of-four-qbs\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">cut Tyler Huntley on Sunday<\/a> and sounded content with their plan to carry four signal-callers on the roster.<\/p>\n<p>Shedeur Sanders makes a throw during the Browns\u2019 Aug. 23 preseason game. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHonestly, it\u2019s not much of a decision for us,\u201d general manager Andrew Berry said on the broadcast during their final preseason game Saturday. \u201cAll four guys have done what we\u2019ve asked,\u201d Berry said. \u201c\u2026 We have a room that we like all the guys in there. We don\u2019t really see that as a problem. We more see it as an opportunity.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But now Pickett will serve as Geno Smith\u2019s backup in Las Vegas, marking his latest stop after the Steelers drafted him in 2022 and he started 24 games for Pittsburgh across two seasons before getting dealt to the Eagles for the 2024 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Sanders, who tumbled to the fifth round of April\u2019s draft, completed 17-of-29 passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns during the preseason, and head coach Kevin Stefanski <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/08\/25\/sports\/kevin-stefanski-responds-to-accusations-hes-sabotaging-shedeur-sanders\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reiterated his commitment<\/a> to Sanders\u2019 development \u2014 and the development for all of his rookies \u2014 when asked about the narrative that he\u2019s sabotaging Sanders.<\/p>\n<p>Shedeur Sanders runs with the ball during the Browns\u2019 preseason game Aug. 23.
