The streamer has canceled the crime series, Variety has confirmed. The decision comes just over two months after its first season debuted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCreated by <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/kevin-williamson\/\" id=\"auto-tag_kevin-williamson\" data-tag=\"kevin-williamson\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kevin Williamson<\/a>, \u201cThe Waterfront\u201d centered on the Buckley family, a North Carolina fishing dynasty that starts on a slippery slope of illicit activities to save their business. The series starred Holt McCallany and Maria Bello as the Buckley spouses, along with Melissa Benoist and Jack Weary as their hard up children. The ensemble also included Rafael L. Silva, Humberly Gonz\u00e1lez, Danielle Campbell and Brady Hepner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cThe Waterfront\u201d had all eight episodes of its first season bow on June 19. The series spent over a week atop the streamer\u2019s Top 10 before being overtaken after the premiere by the juggernaut \u201cSquid Game,\u201d which debuted its third season less than two weeks after. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe series earned mostly positive reviews, drawing comparisons to previous platform-defining crime hits for Netflix like \u201cOzark\u201d and \u201cBloodline.\u201d Variety chief TV critic Aramide Tinubu calling it a \u201chighly bingeable family soap\u201d and arguing that the story\u2019s many loose ends \u201cset itself up to be yet another one of [Williamson\u2019s] long-running fan-favorite shows.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWilliamson had discussed plans for a potential second season, teasing a power struggle within the Buckley family dynasty in <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/the-waterfront-creator-kevin-williamson-grady-death-belle-ascent-1236435756\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">an interview about the Season 1 finale<\/a> with Variety. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cI love writing about families \u2014 I think that\u2019s what I always gravitate toward. But no one wants to write about happy people, that\u2019s not fun. You want to write about messy people doing messy things,\u201d Williamson said about the series. \u201cI wanted to tell a story about this broken family that\u2019s trying to fix itself, and why they have to do it individually and together.
