It was the second straight start in which Schlittler pitched at least six scoreless innings and in his past four outings, he\u2019s allowed just five runs in 27 \u00b2\/\u2083 innings.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me, it\u2019s a great feeling,\u201d Schlittler said when told of Boone\u2019s comment about his potential. \u201cBut you can\u2019t get too comfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n
Not surprisingly, when asked what stood out about the rookie, Boone didn\u2019t hesitate: \u201cThe fastball.\u201d<\/p>\n
He touched 100 mph with the four-seamer against Washington and Boone marveled at what Schlittler is able to do with the pitch.<\/p>\n
\u201cEspecially with his size, he has that short stride that creates a really good angle,\u201d Boone said of the presence the 6-foot-6 Schlittler has on the mound. \u201cHe commands it and is a strike thrower.\u201d<\/p>\n
And there\u2019s another part of Schlittler\u2019s game that figures to serve him well as the Yankees rely on him in the final month of the regular season and perhaps into the playoffs.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat struck me in spring, being around him the first time, I think there\u2019s a quiet confidence to him,\u201d Boone said. \u201cA real competitiveness to him. I feel coming up here, he\u2019s been very unfazed by this last next step to the big leagues. He walks out there every game with lots of confidence that he has the ability to get you out and he\u2019s shown that he can.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cCam\u2019s got a great presence out there,\u201d said Ben Rice, who was behind the plate Monday. \u201cHe\u2019s kind of a rough and tumble kind of guy [with] a blue-collar attitude. He\u2019s got a lot of poise. He\u2019s just tough.\u201d<\/p>\n
He\u2019s also gotten better as he\u2019s gone along.<\/p>\n

In his past three starts, Schlittler has allowed one run over 17 \u00b2\/\u2083 innings \u2014 with no homers. That\u2019s after he allowed six home runs in his first five outings.<\/p>\n
He\u2019s helped bolster a rotation that lost Gerrit Cole for the season in spring training and has seen Clarke Schmidt go down for the year, with Luis Gil still trying to regain the form he showed as AL Rookie of the Year last season and Max Fried and Carlos Rod\u00f3n at the top.<\/p>\n
Boone called it a \u201cpleasant surprise\u201d to have Schlittler emerge at this point in the season.<\/p>\n
