A 26-year-old man died after being shot in the head in a Germantown shooting early Tuesday after, officials said dozens of shots were fired at the victim. <\/p>\n
Four cell phones and, ‘a large amount of cash,’ were found scattered at the scene of the shooting, according to Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.<\/p>\n
Talking to NBC10, Small said the incident happened just after 1 a.m. along the 200 block of West Rittenhouse Street in Philadelphia’s Germantown section. <\/p>\n
Here, officers responded to calls of a shooting on that block to find a 26-year-old man near Rittenhouse Street on the 5800 block of Marion Street after the victim had been shot in the head and throughout his body, Small said. <\/p>\n
The victim, Small said, was pronounced at about 1:18 a.m. at the scene of the shooting.<\/p>\n
Just a few feet from the man’s body, Small said, officers found four cell phones and “a large amount of cash,” were found scattered under a parked vehicle. <\/p>\n
Also, according to Small, investigators recovered more than 35 shell casings from semi-automatic weapons were found throughout the scene. <\/p>\n
“The ballistic evidence is very close to where the victim is laying,” said Small. “So, clearly, the shooter — or shooters — were very close to this victim when these shots were fired.” <\/p>\n
A handgun was also found near the victim’s body, through Small said, police were still unsure if this weapon was used during this incident. <\/p>\n
“We did find a handgun on the scene next to the victim right next to the victim. But, we don’t know if that weapon was fired,” Small said. “We’re not touching it. It’s part of the crime scene and that will be collected by homicide detectives and crime scene personnel once the scene is processed.<\/p>\n
He noted that there were several surveillance cameras in the area and officers were told that a man was seen running north along Marion Street after the shooting.<\/p>\n
