{"id":176911,"date":"2025-08-26T11:43:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T11:43:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/176911\/"},"modified":"2025-08-26T11:43:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T11:43:14","slug":"suspect-in-national-city-murder-pleads-not-guilty-nbc-7-san-diego","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/176911\/","title":{"rendered":"Suspect in National City murder pleads not guilty \u2013 NBC 7 San Diego"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsandiego.com\/news\/local\/national-city-homicide-investigation\/3889283\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">accused of killing a 71-year-old National City woman<\/a> inside her home in an apparently random attack pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that include murder.<\/p>\n<p>Noel Trevino, 30, is accused in last Wednesday&#8217;s slaying of Wanda Taylor at her East Division Street home.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor was struck with a rock and stabbed to death, according to prosecutors, who said the victim and defendant were complete strangers to one another.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy District Attorney Bradley Manering said during Trevino&#8217;s arraignment on Monday afternoon that Trevino went to the home while posing as a salesman \u2014 complete with a clipboard and nametag \u2014\u00a0and spoke briefly with Taylor that morning.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor later left the home, at which point Trevino spent about an hour circling the property and checking the home&#8217;s doors, Manering said in court.<\/p>\n<p>When Taylor returned home, the prosecutor said surveillance footage captured Trevino approaching the victim from behind as she entered the residence while holding a &#8220;softball-sized rock.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Manering said Trevino struck Taylor with the rock at least twice, then used two kitchen knives from the home to kill her.<\/p>\n<p>Trevino then spent more than two hours &#8220;ransacking&#8221; the victim&#8217;s home and taking items, according to Manering.<\/p>\n<p>Taylor&#8217;s husband returned home to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsandiego.com\/news\/local\/man-finds-wife-stabbed-to-death-national-city-home\/3889894\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">discover his wife&#8217;s body and Trevino still inside the residence<\/a>, the prosecutor said. Trevino fled, but was arrested a short time later.<\/p>\n<p>He remains in custody without bail.<\/p>\n<p>The murder charge filed against Trevino includes a special-circumstance allegation of lying in wait.
