Nor have restaurant delivery orders plummeted as the industry had predicted.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">In fact, the total volume of delivery orders <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/dca\/workers\/Delivery-Worker-Public-Hearing-Minimum-Pay-Rate.page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/site\/dca\/workers\/Delivery-Worker-Public-Hearing-Minimum-Pay-Rate.page&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1756239287735000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3U8tqEIH3jHbIDWGSDA6hE\">increased each quarter<\/a>\u00a0in 2024, proving that fairer wages for delivery workers do not come at the expense of consumer demand. Research from economist James Parrott shows that one of the only measurable effects on industry economics has simply been to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/5953059b1b10e384f55aad08\/t\/685edddfb30b0b6d6088d915\/1751047647870\/Parrott+LERA+Econ+situation+of+NYC+delivery+workers+6-13-25+W.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/static1.squarespace.com\/static\/5953059b1b10e384f55aad08\/t\/685edddfb30b0b6d6088d915\/1751047647870\/Parrott%2BLERA%2BEcon%2Bsituation%2Bof%2BNYC%2Bdelivery%2Bworkers%2B6-13-25%2BW.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1756239287735000&amp;usg=AOvVaw3bvllpoBKZCljbeE45TvG9\">shrink the share<\/a>\u00a0of each order siphoned off by the delivery companies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">On the other side of the ledger, the results of the pay standard are clear: the city\u2019s delivery workers \u2014 a workforce that is more than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/assets\/dca\/downloads\/pdf\/workers\/Delivery-Worker-Study-November-2022.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.nyc.gov\/assets\/dca\/downloads\/pdf\/workers\/Delivery-Worker-Study-November-2022.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1756239287735000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1RwbPOruhXIwitHfKwh9oC\">90% Black and Brown<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 now earn at least the minimum wage. It\u2019s a demonstrated success of public policy that makes it easier, not harder, for workers from some of the city\u2019s marginalized communities to feed themselves and their families.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">So why does the mayor believe grocery delivery workers, doing almost identical work to DoorDash and UberEats couriers, should shoulder the cost of cheaper groceries through subminimum pay?
