A pair of heritage music stations in Milwaukee are preparing to sign off as Educational Media Foundation (EMF), operators of the Christian contemporary K-Love and Air1 networks, is expanding its presence in the market.<\/p>\n
The group has filed to purchase Milwaukee Radio Alliance\u2019s AC \u201cB93.3\u201d WLDB and modern\/alternative rock \u201cFM 102.1\u201d WLUM for $4 million. Both stations will be converted to non-commercial stations, EMF says in the filing. The religious broadcaster already operates WLVE (105.3), licensed to Mukwonago, WI, in the Milwaukee-Racine market, which airs its K-Love format.<\/p>\n
Once the sale closes, Milwaukee Radio Alliance will still own oldies \u201cFonz FM\u201d WZTI (1290) in the market as well as country-formatted \u201cFroggy 100.3 & 107.3,\u201d which airs on the Milwaukee-licensed translator W262CJ at 100.3 and the Franklin-licensed W297BY at 107.3, with programming originating on WLDB-HD3.<\/p>\n
The Milwaukee Radio Alliance was launched in 1996 as a partnership between Shamrock Communications\u2019 Bill Lynett and All Pro Broadcasting\u2019s Willie Davis, a former NFL Hall of Fame Green Bay Packer.<\/p>\n
Broker Bob Heymann, managing director of Media Services Group\u2019s Chicago office, says the Milwaukee Radio Alliance sale price equates to a per population (60 dBu contour) price of $1.20 for each of the two stations. He says that is one of the lowest for a big market commercial station in recent memory, pointing out EMF\u2019s recent deal to buy classic rock \u201c98.7\u202fThe\u202fShark\u201d WPPB Tampa\u00a0for $8 million<\/a>\u00a0had a $2.70 per population price tag.
