{"id":177678,"date":"2025-08-26T18:19:10","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T18:19:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/177678\/"},"modified":"2025-08-26T18:19:10","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T18:19:10","slug":"teen-cancer-survivor-dj-daniel-sworn-into-eric-adams-nyc-administration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/177678\/","title":{"rendered":"Teen cancer survivor DJ Daniel sworn into Eric Adams NYC administration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A 13-year-old brain-cancer survivor <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/11\/us-news\/trump-honored-honorary-secret-service-agents-dj-daniel-dispells-rumors-of-icu-hospitalization-amid-brain-cancer-battle\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">famously sworn in<\/a> as a Secret Service agent by President Trump notched another impressive lawman title Tuesday \u2014 New York City\u2019s deputy mayor for public safety.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/06\/us-news\/dj-daniel-cancer-teen-honored-by-trump-has-lots-to-say-about-dc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Devarjaye \u201cDJ\u201d Daniel of Houston, Texas,<\/a> has already <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/11\/us-news\/trump-honored-honorary-secret-service-agents-dj-daniel-dispells-rumors-of-icu-hospitalization-amid-brain-cancer-battle\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">collected more than a thousand law-enforcement badges<\/a> \u2014 and netted his latest honorary title as the Big Apple\u2019s top mayoral liaison on public safety at a touching City Hall ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has moved across the country doing what he loves, and you know in this city, public safety has always been this administration\u2019s top priority,\u201d Mayor Eric Adams said of DJ.<\/p>\n<p>Mayor Eric Adams swears in Devarjaye \u201cDJ\u201d Daniel, 13, as the city\u2019s temporary deputy mayor of public safety during a touching ceremony Tuesday, as the child\u2019s dad holds a Bible. Gregory P. Mango<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been DJ\u2019s top priority as well,\u201d Hizzoner said.<\/p>\n<p>DJ has bravely battled brain cancer since 2018 while traveling nationwide to fulfill his dreams of becoming a law-enforcement officer and raising awareness for the heroic job police carry out.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s been sworn into more than 1,300 police departments and was even appointed a Secret Service agent <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/03\/04\/us-news\/trump-announces-dj-daniels-will-be-honorary-secret-service-agent\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">during Trump\u2019s presidential speech to Congress in March.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday we are proud to add one more role to his list of achievements, and that\u2019s the deputy mayor of public safety for the city of New York,\u201d Adams said of the young teen.<\/p>\n<p>The city\u2019s deputy mayor is the point person in the mayor\u2019s office for developing strategies and coordinating emergency responses involving local law-enforcement and other agencies.<\/p>\n<p>DJ was previously sworn in <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/04\/20\/10-year-old-boy-with-terminal-brain-cancer-becomes-honorary-nypd-cop\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">as NYPD commissioner in 2022<\/a> at age 10.<\/p>\n<p>Adams also gave the teen a proclamation. Mango<\/p>\n<p>The child Tuesday received a proclamation and \u201cNYC Deputy Mayor Public Safety\u201d shirt just like the one officially worn by Deputy Mayor for Public Safety Kaz Daughtry.<\/p>\n<p>DJ, speaking at the City Hall event, emphasized his father\u2019s dedication to helping him live out his dream.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wouldn\u2019t be here if it wasn\u2019t for my daddy,\u201d he said in reference to father Theodis, who was on hand. \u201cMy dad\u2019s been driving me everywhere no matter how tired he is. Join me at 10:15am for more information,\u201d Adams <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/NYCMayor\/status\/1960339673055719449\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">tweeted.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The tweet led to a brief whirlwind of speculation that the Adams administration was facing down another departure after he suffered a mass exodus of <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/02\/17\/us-news\/half-of-nycs-deputy-mayors-resign-after-eric-adams-reprieve-from-trump-doj\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">deputy-mayor resignations earlier this year.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>DJ, a brain cancer survivor, was honored by President Trump earlier this year.  AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Daughtry cleared up the confusion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not going anywhere.
