We don\u2019t expect President Donald Trump to deploy the National Guard in New York City for a host of reasons \u2014 not least because we\u2019re taking his suggestions seriously, but not literally. <\/p>\n

That is, when Trump last week discussed the very real success <\/a>of his intervention in Washington, DC, policing, he mused that Chicago could be next, \u201cand then we\u2019ll help with New York.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

Just in case, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch on Monday reportedly told<\/a> Attorney General Pam Bondi it\u2019s not needed, since crime is down and Gotham remains far safer than other big US cities. <\/p>\n

Shootings are at an all-time low<\/a>, while burglaries, robberies and felony assaults are all trending down, too.<\/p>\n

The Big Apple\u2019s main problem is with the no-bail law and the state government\u2019s other blows to the justice system, an issue Trump flagged Monday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Guard can\u2019t help much with that \u2014 and didn\u2019t when Gov. Kathy Hochul sent it in to help out, as she\u2019s apparently pointed out to the prez<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Cities such as Chicago, which held its spot as the murder capital of America <\/a>for the 13th year running in 2024, might benefit \u2014 except Mayor Brandon Johnson and Gov. JB Pritzker care too much about ideology to work with the Trump administration to save their citizens\u2019 lives.<\/p>\n

We suspect pushing them to make that obvious was a big reason Trump floated the idea. <\/p>\n

And if Zohran Mamdani wins in November and starts unwinding Mayor Eric Adams\u2019 and Tisch\u2019s hard-won progress, then Trump will no doubt start baiting him.<\/p>\n
